This game is amazing, but that being said - the Curve Games is spying on you.

If you use "The Ultimate Windows Utility" by Chris Titus to block any kind of app tracking abilities, this game stops working.

Not even AAA titles like Rust, COD, BF, Valve anything does this.

This means that they have built in tracking software of some kind. Huge bummer because I want to keep playing this game.

Hello,

Firstly, thank you for playing Dungeons of Hinterberg, we’re happy to hear you’ve been enjoying the game!

To address your comment regarding tracking. The game does use Unity Analytics which is very common and collects basic data to enable us to understand player behaviour to help us to improve the game. These are data such as playtime, and some specific actions players take when in-game. Any data collected is anonymous and deleted after a reasonable period of time.

Dungeons of Hinterberg does not include any software that spies on you. We're a small indie dev team, the only thing we’re interested in is you having fun. 🙂

We see no technical reason why the software you mentioned should flag Dungeons of Hinterberg and believe this could be a false flag.

We hope this addresses your concerns.

Thanks for playing!

Yeah continued playing it on my steam deck after since it has nothing but steam on it and I don't have to worry about them data tracking since it's already much harder for them to do that on Linux distros in general.

Also I explained exactly how to replicate it but y'all can fangirl without doing your own research also, don't really care.

Like I said, I like the game, but curve is a shady company collecting your data aggressively, more so than most companies.

Just a warning. Everyone is free to do with the info what they will. I really couldn't give a ♥♥♥♥.

funny that you played the game for 9 more hours after this review where u amde accusations without proof. doesn't make sense. anyways i just got this game from a charity donation and planning to play it on steam deck anyways so I'll be fine either way. also my gaming rig has been used with chris titus tool multiple times so i do care about privacy but this to be honest doesn't seem like a big deal imo.

As stated, this problem isn't with the engine they are using, nor does it have anything to do with the concerns I expressed about tracking, so cool comment I guess.

Thank you for your heartfelt sentiment with still no evidence, but here is an article on the recent cause of your concern, which you didn't care to bring up intentionally or were virtue signalling about privacy and security concerns.

I actually don't use most of the services you listed, but either way it's about what I can easily choose to do, play, or let track me.

I don't have to play this game, I do need a phone as a part of my work, but it doesn't mean I can't decide what to do with my money, time or privacy outside of the things I have to give it up for.

i hope none of yall grandstanders ever use google, youtube, uber, zoom, any social media apps, any phone, windows, any service with an account... because you'll lose your ♥♥♥♥ at what information is actually being gathered about you. oh and all this with zero evidence provided, but that's not important when lunacy takes hold of you.

3rd update: This is specifically Curve Games, not the developer Microbird. I happen to have multiple games published by Curved Games and multiple of those also have this issue, which means, as stated in the EULA, curve is tracking your information in a nefarious way.

I have 93 games installed right now and only Curve games are doing something so aggressive that it's triggering flags on it.

This also unfortunately means that it likely won't be and likely can't be stopped by the developer.

Feel free to play this knowing this information, it's nearly impossible not to be tracked, but I think it's important to call this out when you see it. I can't choose to go without a cell phone, but I can choose what companies I give money to.

Foenix, as your a dev, sorry friend. This probably isn't on you guys. Your publisher is probably the problem.

RIP.

and to address the other comments: Companies are so wildly bad about being truthful even in EULAs about tracking, I have no reason to treat this company differently.

I still can't play this and haven't had this prompt from any of the other 30+ games I've played since updating to stricter privacy settings.

By the way Borderlands doesn't even trigger this. Something is more agressively trying to track my information or gameplay analytics than fkn Gearbox OR Take Two.

Again, no other unity game ( I have over 1,300 games in my library so a lot of unity titles ) have this problem. There is something besides UA causing this issue, and it needs to be addressed.

Thanks, game ignored. Studio can go lick a toad.
