And so, the radio show has ended. It was a good run, not accounting for the hiatus it's been almost 9 years. I just want to say thank you to everyone who has listened, both long time listeners and newer listeners alike. I'm happy that people have enjoyed the show over the years and have been supportive toward it.

Now, looking toward the future there are a few things to say. First off, I believe I said something about this in the last post but I might possibly try to put something new together, not a radio show but like I might put together a greatest hits type album to download, or maybe if at all possible something like vip.swf would be nice. I'm not going to promise that I will for sure do this, but I'll do it if I can.

Beyond this though, is something I just want to put out there; anyone can do a radio show. It doesn't take too much to do it, all you need is the following:

-A server to host it. Caster.FM, the service I've been using for the tail end of the radio show, is completely free to use.
-A collection of music to play, more on this later.
-Winamp, with proper plugins. Easy enough to get, both Winamp and the Shoutcast plugins are free and most sites like Caster.FM have easy tutorials for setting it up.
-A good internet connection, probably the biggest setback for some people.
-Lastly, and this is kind of the strange one, personal taste/desire to do it. I'm not really sure what to say about this, if you have the collection of music you're probably just fine.

So what I'm trying to say is that if anyone wants to do their own radio show in the future, do it. It's not hard to get started, and you might find that you like it. And for those who just like to listen in, you can tune in and support those who want to get started with it.

For collection of music, KHInsider is a good place for normal MP3s, but one thing I did during the show that helped me out was looking into...well special file types, I'm not sure how else to word it. For instance, .vgz and .gym are both file types for Sega Genesis music. You get the proper plugins in Winamp and you can play them just like it's an .mp3, and it all generally works the same on the radio. The benefit being that the filesize is so much smaller so it's easier to get a hold of them. Look into Project 2612 and Zophar's Domain for more details on this, they've got both plugins and entire libraries of music available there.

Anyway, that's about all from me for now. If anyone does want to start up their own show, feel free to post in the comments/discussions about it. I'll make another post in the future if I do end up doing anything else but otherwise, once again, thank you for listening to the show.

There won't be a show tonight, as I'm busy with a lot of things right now. But more importantly then that, I need to talk about the future. There's no easy way to say this, but I've decided to end the radio show.

Simply put, I don't enjoy doing it anymore. Recently I've only been doing it out of an obligation, and I feel the overall quality has been suffering as a result. Rather than work to put together a playlist, I just play a shuffled mess while I walk away and do other things. I feel like at this point there's no reason to keep the show going, when it's somewhat of an antiquated thing anyway. The listener count has also died out over the years, largely in part due to the inability to make threads on /v/ about it anymore. Regardless of why it's happening, I still don't really feel like doing it any longer even if I was able to change those things.

I might look into putting something together later, like a mixtape sort of thing or a webplayer if I can, so that people who enjoy the show can still have something to listen to in the future, but I'm not going to make any concrete promises about it. I'll post something in the future once I've got more details.

So anyway, next week (June 16) and the following week (June 23) will be the last radio shows. I'll try to do something special for both of them, as a final send off. I debated with myself if I would outright end the radio show or just go on another hiatus, but I don't want to leave anyone in a state of false hope if I didn't decide to come back so I feel it's better to just consider it officially over.

Thank you to everyone who has listened to the show over the years and enjoyed it. I really do appreciate it. I'll try to post something else next week but I just wanted everyone to know where things were right now.
