It's like silent hill and minecraft had a baby but the little one came out already high on acid. Worth more than it's asking price, 80+ hrs in and i still feel like ive only scratched the surface. Buy it, and don't look for guides, just wing everything and you'll see the true art of this game

There are only a handful of video games that make you feel as if you should go in completely blind. Most games nowadays want to teach you everything up front, guiding you through systems and mechanics step by step. Lucid Blocks feels entirely different in ways that almost feel too abstract to describe. It reminds me of the feeling I had the first time I played Minecraft- that sense of stepping into something unknown and slowly learning its language- and not really having too much guidance in any of it.

That comparison might seem arbitrary at first, considering the visual aesthetics. Both games share sandbox elements, but their motivations and atmosphere are very different. Lucid Blocks feels more ethereal- everything feels what it shouldn’t seem and exactly what it should seem all at the same time. It’s almost dreamlike- alluring in the way it pulls you forward, but also terrifying and bewildering at times. Not to mention the creatures you’ll meet- pure terror or strangely cute. The world constantly feels just beyond your understanding and that’s extremely refreshing to not know what you’re doing at times. That being said, everything you choose to do matters in the grand scheme of things, but how you get there, what you build, and the path you take is entirely your own.

What makes the gameplay loop so interesting is you can gain everything and also lose nothing- you’re constantly figuring things out and the game rewards you for experimenting. You’re not memorizing things in the traditional sense of gaining recipes or progressing through clear milestones like in Minecraft. Instead, Lucid Blocks focuses more on discovery and personal exploration; jotting personal notes and taking risks. The game trusts the player to experiment, observe, and slowly piece things together over time and I can’t say it’s a feeling I get all the time in video games nowadays.

I’ll be honest though- the curiosity bug hit me hard. Plenty of hours in, I eventually looked up what other players were experiencing, and hearing their stories only made me more determined to figure things out for myself. I’ve managed to get the grappling hook, but I still haven’t made the Bee Glove. Along the way I’ve learned how to follow the Leyline, discovered what Cache Cubes are and figured out how to create my own personal Qualia. Each discovery feels earned and you need to take the risks to experiment even if it’s a little scary.

Older experiences in sandbox game like Minecraft, Terraria, or Skyrim relied heavily on the player learning through exploration. Even a few more modern games like Cyberpunk 2077 and more recently, Pokémon: Pokopia- still encourage environmental decision-making for personal gameplay progression. Lucid Blocks taps into that same philosophy, but places it inside a world that feels almost liminal in its scale- placing it on its own playing field, in my personal opinion.

The space stretches in every direction- upward, downward, left, and right. It’s easy to get lost, but it’s just as easy to stumble into something fascinating or extremely terrifying. You could never make me go to the Wooden Pillar Ocean again- no way, no how.

I can’t really say Lucid Blocks is like any other game- and honestly, I hope it stays that way. I’d love to see future updates expand the experience with new discoveries or adventures. Of course, I wouldn’t want the identity of the game to be disarrayed, but it’d be a treat to see what other biomes can be found throughout our qualias.

Either way, this is one of the rare games that makes me want to see everything it has to offer. I don’t usually aim to 100% games, but this one feels too special to not attempt. It feels like something truly worth fully experiencing.

So to Lucy- you deserve the applause! Congratulations!

The best way I can describe liquid blocks is it captures the exact feeling of being a kid before Minecraft went multi platform and your parents won’t get it for the family pc because they don’t know wtf it is and their not “giving $26 to some dude in Sweden” via the website. you settle for the clones flooding the Apple app store so you have something close to the actual game on your iPod touch with a gross silicone case. Something called like DudeMiner X it’s like $7.99 and you buy it with the iTunes gift card you got for your birthday.

It’s like that but way more polished and werid.
