I'll start with one thing that ALL game programmers could learn from this game: have the player go through the individual decisions through conversation with Death on their initial run of each character, but once you actually beat Death, the story goes away for that character. subsequent runs with a winning character means Death just shuts up and plays you. I wish other games respected the players' time as much as this does.

TLDR
This is as addictive as a game can get, with that "just one more run" bursting through the screen and weaving it's way into the fun and strategic-thinking part of your brain. 8.5 out of 10

thank you for reading this far and showing interest in what my considerations with 120+ hours under my belt since Sept. 2025 - Early Access to finished product. In fact, I got the game ten days prior to the introduction of the witch; this is mentioned because I was already in love with the overall concept of the game and reluctantly of the 16 bit (?) retro look as well.
BUT as I played, I realized the retro rough-edged style in the game is so the Dice and Relics text [always available with a mouse hover] helped DEATH in a way, by making you think there's not much thought or effort going into the project..... OH, my dear reader, you must play the demo.

I mean, if you enjoy playing almost any non-computer based dice game (I'm looking at you, Yahtzee T.M.), as well as a goodly sum of computer creations, I can't fathom why you wouldn't at least give the demo a try. This game almost immediately shows you the entire intent of where the game currently was at the time I bought in with a very fair number of different Dice, Relics, and different play-styles of the Soldier and the Healer and you die a lot until you begin to really pay attention to the synergies you can create - and that's when it hits you that DEATH uses his revelations and the graphics as a distraction because you CAN kill him and win.
So you owe it to yourself to at least play a while, a goodly number of deaths, and it'll get you.

onto the final, currently 1.0.1, Forgive my long-windedness there, but it isn't without actual purpose.
A much greater number of Dice & Relics, as well as two new characters. I am in no way associated with the creator(s) of the game. I a child of the 1960's. I've been, thanks to my father's job at one of the world's largest technological design and creation corporations, using computers, even over modem, with no screen, just a paper continuous-feed printer with by today's standards an interminable wait for the live opponent somewhere in the world or the nascent AI
I paid my price and endured the Tandy days into pre-built rigs and eventual better and better graphics, response time, and much better games.
I am a gaming addict. 42 years of playing with computers, a goodly number of years working at a university overseeing the hundreds of computers, using Unix as much as IBM platforms/Networks and small room of Apple machines.
I am also a recluse who refuses all social-media interaction, other than my occasional review of a game or music.
I basically do not interact with the game developers by troubleshooting, reporting bugs (unless the game has a crash log that it wants to give the developers. that I think is worth allowing), I think I might post to a news item of a game maybe 10 times in total over the course of a year. I don't involve myself with the game's progress. I just play and enjoy.
Dice With Death is an astonishingly well-considered and thought-out game. The craftmanship is top-notch.
A - you have a vast pool of Relics to choose from as you play, as well as special dice Death introduces you to add to your pool of six dice.
B - again, you only go through the story once. I have a Hundred-Twenty-plus hours in the game. less than probably 1.3 % of that time was the enjoyable, humorous, well-written and intriguing story.
C - my only con or negative comment is the great bugginess in playing with a controller.
Soldier - deals DD. stack his bonus die and use them alone if you can
Healer - the power of the Healer is almost up there with the Witch for damage. he has a cauldron which fills over time with damage, healing, and poison. You can surely guess which are aimed at whom. focus on the cauldron and poison.
Witch - Seems to be the most played near as I can tell. Doesn't deal damage from her finished "hand", but rather by using die rolls to empower spells.
Adventurer - the last (?) character. I'm still just tipping my toe in the waters with him. Oh, I finished his story, but my guess would be less than 15 runs post-story/unlocks. Adventurer sort of goes all over the place but does have interesting synergies.
I highly recommend this game. Please at least try the demo - I hope the demo has been redone since I played it. It wasn't bad by any stretch. It is just that now the game is in a different place.

I may return to edit this with more of my feelings about the final product, but please forgive occasional lack of capitalization of some words.

Simple premise, great depth. Constant updates with expanding play styles and great QoL options. Even has a lot of flavor and wit in the dialogue. A hidden gem that deserves tons more attention.

A relatively simple but still fun and relaxing roguelike, perfect to wind down a bit after a long day. It's basically The Seventh Seal, but you're playing dice instead of chess.

Don't expect the level of complexity and craziness of something like Balatro, it's smaller in scope. Still, you get four classes(so far), each with their own gimmick that makes them feel quite distinct. Each of them also has a bit of a backstory that you uncover as you play and conversate with Death, which is a nice detail that fleshes out the game quite a bit. My only criticism on this bit is that some references are a bit too on the nose(for me anyway) and the Adventurer is a bit too silly, especially considering the other characters have a more somber script that matches the tone set by the visuals and audio.

The balance is a bit off, though. I've played a fair bit now, and with the recent update I went through Circle 4(the hardest difficulty) with all classes to get the new dice. With the Soldier(the starting class) it took me about 10 attempts to beat Death once. With the Healer, 2. With the other 2, just one. I'm pretty sure I've never lost a game with the Adventurer no matter how brain dead my relic/dice picks were. People may be frustrated with the game's difficulty while not being aware that the first class is just kind of underpowered, even though it's probably the most fun one due to actually needing to think about your moves a bit more.

Overall, hearty recommend.
