Early Access Review

ETS2 - but in the water.

A lot of people are complaining that this is more arcade than sim, and they have a point. The natural evolution of this title would be to add (optional and incremental) 'realistic' sim mechanics.
That said - you could really level the same criticisms at ETS2, and that title seems to be doing quite well.

For me, it is simple - am I enjoying playing a game? If I am (as in this case), it gets a thumbs up.

The devs seems quite active in adding patches and new content to the game - another good reason for a thumbs up (I have far too many half-done and abandoned games in my Steam Library). I have had my money's worth playing the game in it's current state, but it is great to know that it is evolving too.

I was put off playing this due to reported concerns regarding optimisation. Now, a game can always be further optimised, but it works just fine on my rig *and* in VR (with UEVR). If I were looking at the ships on a flat screen, rather than *being in them*, I would not have bought the title. However, it is a wonderful and immersive experience in VR.

This goes in my 'fun to play sim' category - a great title to just chill out with.

Early Access Review

I have spent less than an hour on the game. Ran a short, 'Police Inspection Mission'. The game is Early Access. Clearly not ready for PRIME TIME.

Graphics: Adequate. (with potential to be good in the future)

Sound: Adequate. (current voice work is functional, but not good)

Vessel Handling: Will feel legit for persons without time on vessels over 30' in length. Ill refer to it as 'Sim Cade'. Its very approachable for the newbie, and Ill go with passable for those of us with actual time on the Bridge of large Naval Vessels, or Yachts. (potential is there, to be excellent in the future)

Lighting: Game is very DARK. Particularly during 'Bad Weather'. The lighting from ship board lights is solid. There is room for improment. But it is quite workable for now. Lighting from other vessels, bouy's buildings, ect...are 'good enough' for now in Early Access.

Missions: They are rather simple. There is nothing really engaging about the missions at this point. Just the Framework for what could be a solid Game in the Future.

Do I reccomend? Yes. Barely. At 15$ USD, which is what I paid for it. Its worth a look. The control scheme is not difficult to pick up, If you look around your screen and take time to note the details, the vessel control scheme is fairly intuitive. Game Control is not quite as intuitive. A radial dial is used for control of Ships Lighting, and can also be used for engines and radio or crew orders, while away from the Bridge. Game makes significant use of Radial Dials activated by the D Pad on your Game Pad, and of course, Keyboard and Mouse Control is also an option. And you can use both control methods at the same time.

Devs, you have a lot of work to do.

There's so much potential in this title. Absolutely incredible potential. But this feels like an alpha release. I was really disappointed by the complete lack of physics. If a ship acts and feels like a ship and it responds realistically to the wind and waves then the other gameplay shortcomings can be overlooked. Unfortunately nothing is good. Irs all mediocre and it shouldn't be this way. Really hope the potential can be realised in future updates. I won't be playing this much at all because it's just ...
