🔧 Fixes

Fixed an issue causing the light switches to be un-usable if failing the challenge just before the Rotten Ending.
Fixed the moveable Sensor Light in the Waterworks Maintenance Halls spawning in the incorrect position.
Fixed an edge case allowing the player to bring a light into the Ventilation level.
Fixed various audio and script errors in Memory Disposal.
Fixed various visual issues in the Bounce House levels.
Fixed an out-of-bounds exploit in the Playplace Maintenance Halls.
Fixed the combination lock in the puzzle prior to entering Memory Disposal not being color-coded.
Fixed a clipping piece of map geometry in the Playplace.

Bugged interactions before rot ending?

I've attempted this puzzle on launch day and the only thing wrong was me getting sandwiched in the signs xD. When back in the house for the round 2 door puzzle its happened twice now that i cannot interact with the light switches to counter smile. The monster just freezes while im spamming on the light switch and then the screen goes black, resetting the puzzle. Now, after all these patches im wondering if its unintended behavior?...

🛠️ Changes

Reworked several puzzles, mechanics, and environments for an overall better user experience.
- This also includes various fixes to several environments, including Memory Disposal and its chase sequence.
Updated the Clock Hint in the Basement to be a shorter length, improving localization support.
Various Setting changes and adjustments
- The "HUD Icons" setting is now enabled by default.
- Adjusted the GPU name format for the "Graphics" settings menu.
- Added "Hit Lighting", "Dirt Mask", and "Color Fringe (Chromatic Aberration)" settings to the "Immersion" category.
- Added "Smart Crouch" to the "Controls" category, allowing customization of certain player crouch behaviors.
- Added "AO (Ambient Occlusion) Quality" to the "Graphics" category.
- Moved the "Depth of Field" and "Motion Blur Amount" settings from "Graphics" to "Immersion".
- Improved performance when using the "APPLY" button in "Graphics" settings.
- Adjusted object support for "Interaction Outlines" setting, when set to "ALL".
Adjusted how key names "L-Click", "R-Click", "M-Click" are displayed to be more recognizable.
- Outside of gameplay, the names are now "Left Click", "Right Click", and "Middle Click".
- For In-Game-UI or other gameplay areas, an image of the mouse is now used to display these keys, similar to gamepad inputs.
Re-enabled "Toggle Narration" functionality and added a HUD Icon while the audio is muted from this key being pressed.
Adjusted the Flashlight HUD Icon to now be separate indicators of the player having/using their light.
Adjusted the frequency of hints when hovering over Squeeze Paths.

🔧 Fixes

Fixed a misplaced Emotional Encouragement zone in the Playplace Entrance area.
Fixed an incorrect voice-over being used for the Security Cam Intro, when using "Chinese (Simplified)" Voice Language.
Fixed various audio issues that could occur during the Arcade Ending.
Fixed an animation issue with the Arcade Ending gate.
Fixed one of the indicators in the Memory Load UI appearing dashed instead of solid.
Fixed AMD RX 9000 series GPUs not using Hardware Raytracing by default.
Fixed an issue causing a potentially incorrect default "Voice Language" setting.
Fixed missing localization support for the "SKIP" text in the Credits Screen; now named "EJECT".
Fixed an edge-case unintentionally allowing VSync to be turned on whilst in Windowed Mode.
Fixed an issue causing certain levels after the Playplace to not be loaded.
Fixed an issue causing certain Deep Storage levels to not be loaded.
Fixed being able to leave Walter's room in the Playplace Entrance area, before the sequence was completed.
Fixed balloons unintentionally receiving decals, leading to visual issues in certain locations.
Fixed an issue causing the player to be able to still throw pick up items while they were not visible.
Fixed the "Hide and Seek" achievement not being awarded in certain circumstances, depending on how the player participated in the Basement challenge.

I get to waterworks and I ride the blue side. The red slide is blocked with the equipment and there appears to be a demon doll at the top. Anyone know why I cant get to the top of the red slide?

Subliminal Update Roadmap

Hey everyone,

We’ve been closely monitoring player feedback, livestreams, Steam reviews, and much more over the past few days to continue identifying areas for improvement. Some of these areas include ongoing puzzle flow changes, and updates to the clarity of Subliminal’s narrative. We’re glad that the previous changes have had a positive impact on your experiences, and we will continue to improve upon these over the next few weeks!

Speaking of future updates, we want to share a quick look at what’s coming next down the development pipeline. Below is a brief roadmap outlining Subliminal’s next three planned updates:

In the short term, our focus is mainly on final revisions to puzzle difficulty and overall gameplay quality. Additionally, we are beginning a more targeted narrative overhaul that will expand upon the pre-existing storyline to add much needed clarity.

Patch 1.0.2 focuses on further puzzle difficulty adjustments based on player feedback. While the last patch helped a lot, there are still many areas for improvement. We’ve significantly improved the general puzzle flow and difficulty ramping throughout the episode in this patch. Every puzzle has been improved in some capacity, with a few being entirely rebuilt to serve the overall gameplay experience better. Additionally, hints have been increased and placed more conveniently for ease of access.

Patch 1.0.3 will begin an initial phase of narrative enhancements to improve the storytelling.

Update 1.1 will expand on this with a much more substantial narrative overhaul. We’ll be reconstructing quite a bit regarding how the story is delivered to the player, diving deeper into the untapped truths within Caleb’s memories. We hope you will enjoy this update.

I hate to be so cruel to some indie devs, They have a story they want to tell, which is a run of the mill backrooms fanfic buried under pretentious symbolism onto the abstract nature of thought. I won't say the puzzles are terrible but the "action" sequences are horrendous. The liminal aspect is alright but I've experienced better in some of the other backrooms style games. My biggest gripe comes from the frustration of aimlessly meandering around for 2 more hours than the story took to complete, Subliminal is a 1 hour long game extended to 3 hours because of listlessly wandering around trying to figure out what event trigger needs interacting with to progress the story. So for that reason, I really can't recommend this game to anyone.

I have to be honest, there is good and bad to this and I'll briefly go over both.

THE GOOD:

-Beautifully rendered scenes
-Hyper realistic environments
-Great voice acting
-Fun visual storytelling

THE BAD:

I don't think I can properly make a list and do justice to how much of a damn chore this is to play.

FIRST, The chase sequences. The game wants you to make quick, split-second choices with absolutely no room for error, but the movement systems are simultaneously so stiff yet floaty that making these small adjustments can feel next to impossible. How do you win? You die multiple times, until you've made a mental map of your chase route and have practiced it enough to execute it perfectly. Why is this frustrating? Oftentimes, the game will force your camera to turn around just to look back at the monster currently chasing you, meaning you're not only fighting the controls and running from the monster, but also always wrestling with the games mechanics. There are roughly 7 or so of these in this short game, and only one monster. You eventually stop fearing the monster and just start to dread having to mental map another damn corridor.

SECOND, the endings. This game is *deeply* unsatisfying and clearly rushed. It does not tell a cohesive story, it just sort of gets dramatic and then... stops. I've gotten all but one "ending" and don't feel like a single one actually ended the chain of events that I set off to get to it. Literally every time, I've found myself saying "...that's it?" and groaning into the next one hoping for something better. There's one ending where you have to replay roughly 1/8th of the entire game, go through another chase sequence, take a detour, play a rage mini game, and collect a strip of arcade tickets. Then you have to quit the game, reload back into where you started, replay that 1/8th of the game AGAIN but make a different choice at the end, and then deposit your tickets into a hidden ticket counter machine. This gets you the ARCADE ENDING where you... walk into an arcade. That's it. You don't even get to EXPLORE the arcade, you just walk inside and the screen fades to black. No narration, no climax, nothing. Roll credits.

THIRD, the puzzles. They're not hard, but they are confusing at best and disappointing at worst. If you played the demo, the intro is actually REALLY GOOD. There's a creepy clock on the wall, and a TV droning through infomercials. You have to sit down like a kid, watch the commercial segments, and eventually pick up on the hints you're being given. I won't spoil the rest, but it's a fantastic little bit of playing with the environment in order to progress... the rest of the puzzles are switches and codes. Like, literally all of them. That cool bit at the beginning? That's all you get, now go push a button, climb a thing, and put some numbers into a combo lock. It's just so lazy.

FINALLY, speaking of the environments, you know how I said they were very well rendered? Well, that's true. The problem is that after the first three levels, which are FANSTASTIC, you're essentially going to spend the rest of the game in concrete hallways. Sometimes there are boxes, sometimes they are painted, but it's always just hallways and spooky lighting. It's like they wanted to make a nostalgic game, created like 1/4th of it, realized they had to make the REST of the game, and just sort of mapped out concrete hallways until they lost steam. The "Endings" are at the ends of those hallways, and that feels really fitting because every route truly does feel like nothing more than an unexpected wall.

Now they want me to wait and pay for a second chapter? No thanks. Look at how many hours I have in this, I really checked out everything I could. It's just so half-baked and keeps making promises that it can't deliver on.

IN CONCLUSION, don't do what I did. Watch someone else play this and wait for it to be on sale if you really want to check out the first few areas. This game should have just been a walking simulator, instead it's a puzzle platformer without any of the DNA one of those needs to actually hold up beyond an hour of playtime.

Stuck in Red Storage Room

I've gone back to try and see if there's an alternative route to no avail. I am currently stuck in the red storage room after the long halls of boxes from doing the shoe room lock combination in hopes to find a key card. I cannot go out the way I came and am trapped in a room with double doors I cannot go through. I've put the light beam in all possible lights and nothing. Please help a girl out, thanks. <3...
