As someone who has played since year 1, this current era is the greediest. And that's saying a lot for a micro-transaction game backed by a huge company like Marvel.

The high voltage mode running right now has a Series 4 pack that requires 18,000 points. Not even the most recent cards, you're getting last gen cards. You only get 20 points for winning a match. They want players calling out of work and playing all 6 days. Did they not sell enough anime jpeg bundles? This is desperation. They barely even have any upcoming Marvel movies to cash a tie-in.

If you want to play, you need to buy Star-Lord, Fin Fang Foom, and Dragon Lord at the bare minimum. All Series 5 cards that you can't really buy directly. You need to buy the currency to buy a pack and hope you get it. It's a hard to beat meta that is just not fun to play against. It won't get changed because all of the reddit whales praise it. And that's really the only players Second Dinner needs to appeal to.

TLDR;
• Not fun anymore.
• Free players need to spend to win and even then you really won't because you're so far behind.
• You're spending money on limited time jpegs. Very much preying on your dopamine.

I managed to reach the highest rank using a 1-cost deck and Cosmo as a counter, but I lost so many hours grinding and escaping against decks that were immeasurably stronger, it felt awful. If you plan to play competitively without spending a fortune, save your mental health: the game is extremely pay-to-win, and you'll find that players in the high ranks frequently use the most absurdly buffed, recent decks. You won't be able to keep up.
Besides that, the game mechanics are cool, the characters are interesting and fun, there are many strategies to use, and everything is very simple to understand, but I can't recommend wasting time on this mobile slot machine.
