This could’ve been a great pirate survival game, but it just isn’t. The idea is solid and there are some nice touches, but everything feels half-finished and overly simple.

It gets boring really fast. You keep doing the same thing over and over: sail to an island, loot everything, kill a few enemies, sail or fast travel back. That’s the entire loop. Every island looks the same, every encounter feels identical, and the puzzles are extremely basic. There’s no real sense of progress or long-term motivation. After a few hours it just feels repetitive and empty.

The combat system isn’t fun. It’s clunky, slow, and made worse by an annoying stamina system. You run out of stamina after a few swings, so you spend half the fight drinking stamina and health potions just to keep fighting. It doesn’t feel rewarding or skillful, just frustrating.

Even sailing feels lifeless. There’s no real wind or water physics. Sails fully open means full speed all the time. Waves don’t affect your ship, and you can sail for kilometers without touching the wheel unless you need to avoid an island. Wind and water have zero impact on how the ship handles, which completely kills the whole sailing vibe.

The ship building system sounds great at first. You can find blueprints, craft and decorate ships, and use them as your base. But it gets pointless fast. You can only sail one ship anyway, and most of the differences are just cosmetic. Even a high-tier ship that takes hours of grinding and multiple level 20 crafting skills only goes 28 knots compared to your starter ship’s 24. On top of that, there are only a handful of crafting stations in total, and you already unlock all of them when you build your first ship. There’s barely any sense of progression or new gameplay features later on.

Co-op feels poorly designed. Loot isn’t shared, it’s random for everyone, and each player has to loot everything themselves. Everyone sails behind the host on their own ship, and if you go too far, you get teleported back. When you die, you respawn on your ship, so you always have to keep it close. Even storage chests are private per player. It doesn’t feel like teamwork at all.

Performance in singleplayer is mostly fine. There are some light stutters when new islands load in, but that’s about it. In co-op, however, those stutters are a lot worse and pretty noticeable, since new islands appear every few hundred meters. It’s not unplayable, but it definitely breaks the flow.

And honestly, I have no idea who this game is actually made for. It feels like it’s meant for people new to gaming, but the navigation and combat are too clunky and confusing for beginners. For experienced players, it’s far too simple and repetitive. It’s either unnecessarily complicated or painfully basic, with nothing in between. It ends up appealing to no one.

After a few hours we started wondering if this was still early access, because it really feels like it. But it’s not, it’s a full release. Salt 2 has some good ideas, but the execution is shallow, repetitive, and unfinished. It could’ve been something special, but in its current state, it’s just not worth your time.

- multiplayer is implemented terribly, some players can do quests/enter doors/get rewards, some cant, you have to quit and come back constantly to rejoin other players after they've entered doors that you're locked out of.
- most of the loot is not real loot, it's a recipe, so essentially useless unless you plan on grinding every crafting tree in the game, and they're a grind
- there's barely any difference in dps between weapons, the skill tree is useless because you only get 1 point every 5 levels and i finished the game at level 28 (with only 5 skill points).
- everything is gate locked by level.
