i still recall that one summer night where me and dias had just experienced the most ethreal spiritual event in our lives. i felt my spirit reborn from the ashes of our mere existance. its as if we were fifteen again and back in our summer job installing carpets for Ser Alfred. The job was horrible, but atleast the tunes were solid. I was always jealous of all the other folk that spent time at the beach though... but who cares about that anyway, we had carpets to instsall. three days into the job and i could tell dias could not keep up with it. i saw doubt in his eyes, as if the once bold lion that struck fear into the hearts of his enemies, and safety to his loved ones, was about to give up. I told him to ask his father for advice, he had done the same job three moons ago. I think it paid off, as he still returned the next day. but it didnt feel the same. something was off... i tried to comfort him, i told him that my wish for him is to see himself thro

ugh my eyes and to know how proud i am of him for doing this job. i sincerely hoped it would help... eight weeks later and the summer is about to end, we had managed to push through it together. On the last day, Ser Alfred came to the worksite. I saw him pull dias aside for a chat, and i couldnt help but sneak up to listen in on it. Alfred told dias that in 27 years no kid had ever made it through fully, and how proud he is of him. i also saw him place 40€ in his palm, for his hard work. i truly believe it is the most valuable money hes ever made, a lesson that hard work does pay off. as we were about to depart the jobsite, we looked into eachothers eyes for the last time, a bittersweet goodbye for two good pals. I told him that with enough clarity he will find and eternal summer in his heart, and that i will all work out in the end. we hugged and split ways... i havent seen the kid since, i really wonder how hes doing...

dias once told me that when he was fifteen, he had a summer job installing carpets for Alfred Kodagolian on Lake Charlevoix. horrible job... hot, indoors, forced to listen to kenny rogers on 8-track while the rest of the world was on the beach. three days into the job, he knew he had to quit. he asked his father for advice. all he wanted to know was whether he'd give my word to mr. Kodagolian that he'd work for the summer. he told him he had. his father suggested he stick it out. he'd give his word. worst eight weeks of his life, he said. until the last day. mr Kodagolian showed up at the jobsite, pulls him aside, and tells me that in 27 years, no kid ever made it through the summer and he gave him a $40 bonus. most valuable money he's ever made. a priceless lesson about life
