The difficulty in understanding the gnome is that we fail to see he’s not a true Tarantian, but a conniving banker from the shadows of the Industrial Council, thinking in ledgers and lies. We can no more comprehend a gnome than an elf’s poetry or an orc’s rage, and from what I’ve seen in Tarant’s counting houses, I’ve no wish to understand them, save to know how many dynamite sticks or hexes it takes to topple their schemes. Beyond their cunning ways, the gnome holds no regard for honest trade and is a cutthroat, scheming miser, forever drunk on gold and power.
