Poppy Playtime - Chapter 3

CatNap Sounds Like A Drug

Having played the previous chapters of this series, I embarked on Chapter 3 with a mix of anticipation and maybe a bit of anxiety. This chapter promised a journey through a haunting orphanage lurking beneath the whimsical surface of the toy factory, and it did not disappoint. It's the series' most ambitious chapter yet, both in scope and in the nightmares it presents.

About This Game

Storyline

The plot of Poppy Playtime delves far into the shadows of Playcare, an orphanage beneath a toy factory with a troubled past. In this chapter, a new foe named CatNap is introduced, representing the dark secrets held by Playtime Co. Because he represents the corruption and atrocities that exist at the core of the orphanage, his presence heightens the tension. The story meanders through Playcare's creepy hallways, where riddles and artifacts from the past lead to terrifying discoveries regarding CatNap's actual purpose and the dark experiments carried out by Playtime Co.

In addition to solving puzzles as they progress through the game, players are learning about CatNap and the orphanage and piecing together the tragic tales of neglect and sinister intentions that haunt the place. The inclusion of CatNap to the storyline obviously elevates the game to a narrative-driven horror adventure where mystery and dread permeate every aspect of Playcare. Players are forced to confront the toy factory's dark legacy and battle for survival against a backdrop of depraved innocence.

Gameplay Mechanics

With gameplay elements that push the boundaries of independent horror puzzles, Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 takes players on a deeper exploration of the eerie Playcare. This chapter continues the trend of engaging the player through puzzles, chase sequences, and the strategic use of tools like the GrabPack and a new addition, the Gas Mask.

Updated GrabPack & Puzzles
The iconic GrabPack receives enhancements, opening up new avenues for puzzle-solving and exploration. These improvements allow for a more interactive experience with the environment, giving players creative ways to navigate obstacles and unlock new areas within the game. The puzzles have seen a notable increase in complexity, incorporating new elements such as turrets and additional GrabPack attachments. This added complexity challenges players to think critically and adapt to new mechanics, making each puzzle feel fresh and engaging when compared to the previous two chapters.

Gas Mask and Environmental Navigation
A new tool introduced in this chapter is the Gas Mask, which is essential for navigating through hazardous areas filled with toxic air. This addition not only adds a layer of survival horror elements but also integrates seamlessly into puzzle-solving and exploration. The Gas Mask exemplifies the game's commitment to expanding its gameplay mechanics in meaningful ways, enhancing the atmospheric tension and immersion in the game's dark and spooky setting.

Visuals and Audios

Visually, the game is a feast for the eyes, with the run down orphanage painted in a palette of both horror and wonder. The attention to detail in the environments immerses players in a world that's beautifully unsettling. The voice acting in all those video-clips we see on the TVs deserve special mention for bringing depth and eeriness to the atmosphere, enhancing the overall playthrough. The soundscape, with its strategic use of silence and sudden noises, plays a crucial role in building suspense and delivering scares that are more psychological than jumpscare-heavy.

Pros
  • Engaging storyline with satisfying revelations.
  • Enhanced gameplay mechanics with the upgraded GrabPack and the inclusion of the new gas mask.
  • Exceptional voice acting and sound design.
  • Visually stunning environment design that perfectly creates an eerie atmosphere.

Cons
  • Puzzles can feel repetitive.
  • Some chase sequences feel unfairly punishing, particularly for players who struggle with quick reflexes. Not everyone has a good reaction-time.

Conclusion

This chapter in particular is a testament to the series' evolution, presenting a chapter that is not only the longest but also the most refined in terms of storytelling and gameplay. Despite its flaws, particularly in puzzle design and a few gameplay mechanics, the chapter's strengths in atmosphere, story, and innovation make it a standout addition to the series. It leaves a lasting impression and sets a high bar for future chapters. The anticipation for Chapter 4 is real, and if the developers continue on this trajectory, we're in for an even more thrilling continuation of this dark and twisted tale!

Halo Infinite (Multiplayer)

MaStEr ChIeF sUpReMaCy

Diving into the multiplayer segment of Halo: Infinite feels like stepping into an arena where every second pulses with the potential for epic plays and heart-stopping moments. It's here that I found a battleground teeming with both nostalgia and fresh, innovative mechanics that redefine the Halo experience for veterans and newcomers alike.

About This Game

Storyline

Since I am talking about the Multiplayer Portion of the game, I will not be including the storyline of the Campaign portion of Halo Infinite as I will be writing a separate review for it.

Gameplay Mechanics

As this game is a competitive multiplayer title, it involves a lot of mechanics. Here are the core mechanics:

Combat

The multiplayer action in this game is an exciting fusion of traditional Halo gunplay with new features that come together to produce a very competitive and emotionally enjoyable experience. Players have a great deal of tactical possibilities because of the game's well-balanced and varied weaponry, which includes anything from lethal energy swords to precise firearms. Each weapon has a specific purpose and role, thus players are encouraged to modify their tactics according to their loadouts and the circumstances.

New equipment pieces, such as the Repulsor, add to the combat's complexity and enjoyment. Whether you use a Drop Wall for instant cover or a Grappleshot to quickly reduce the distance to an attacker, these tools enable innovative confrontations. The interaction between these new mechanics and classic gunfights enhances the fighting experience by giving each encounter a distinct, memorable feel.

Furthermore, combat is made to encourage smart play and teamwork, particularly in modes that call for coordination to accomplish goals beyond merely defeating the adversary. The tempo of the game creates a nice contrast between quick, violent clashes and slower, more position-based, strategic interactions. This diversity guarantees that the combat will always be interesting, giving players a ton of chances to outwit and outplay their rivals.

Movement

The way the movement mechanisms are designed is just as crucial to the gameplay experience. The smooth transition between sprinting and sliding adds a tactical element to positioning and evasion. It also feels a lot more natural. Combat becomes more dynamic when players may move quickly across the battlefield, avoid enemy fire, or execute aggressive tactics. When paired with the equipment, these movement choices guarantee that combat in Halo is more than just shooting. Timing and dexterity become crucial elements of success, highlighting the significance of tactical reasoning and reflexes in winning.

Weapons & Equipments

The weapons are made to accommodate a wide range of combat situations, allowing players to modify their strategy depending on the circumstance. The arsenal includes energy swords, explosive launchers, strong shotguns, and precision rifles, each having its own special qualities and intended use. Precision weapons for instance, require a lot of accuracy but reward players for headshots, while power weapons offer game-changing potential with their “Destructive” capabilities but they come with very limited ammo.

These weapons are balanced so that no one weapon takes control of the battlefield. Rather, players have to make strategic decisions based on the enemy's tactics, the map's layout, and their own goals at the moment. This diversity makes for a dynamic fighting experience where flexibility and multi-weapon mastery are essential for victory.

On the other hand, equipment gives players tactical benefits through inventive usage, adding yet another level of complexity to the gameplay. Combat is greatly affected by items that offer new movement possibilities, defensive maneuvers, or strategic setups, such as the Grappleshot, Repulsor, and Drop Wall.

The strategic deployment of these equipment items can turn the tide of battle, creating opportunities for skilled players to outmaneuver and outplay their opponents. The effectiveness of each piece of equipment depends on the situation and each individual’s ability to integrate its use into their overall strategy.

Game Modes & Playlists

This game offers a wide variety of game modes to satisfy players that enjoy PvP and PvE. Traditional Arena Combat, Big Team Battles, Ranked battles, and the mayhem of Super Fiesta are all available to players. If cooperative gameplay is more your style, Firefight pits groups against AI in scenarios with predetermined goals. The game is always updating its playlists, so players can always expect a dynamic and new experience. For those who enjoy survival games, there are modes like Infection, which highlight Halo's dedication to offering a wide variety of interesting material for its community. I recommend checking out the game for more info on the various game modes available as I prefer not to mention each and every one of them here and make the review longer than it needs to be!

Battle Pass & Progression

The battle pass system, which is now a common feature in almost all the free-to-play titles, introduces a grind that can sometimes detract from the joy of gameplay. Challenges often encourage specific playstyles or achievements that don't necessarily align with team objectives or personal enjoyment. Although tweaks have been made to alleviate some frustration, the progression can still feel tedious and unrewarding, with many unlockables lacking excitement which is supposed to be the main goal of such a rewarding-system.

Visuals & Audio

This game actually has exceptional graphical fidelity and acoustic design that entice the senses. The arenas are finely designed, striking a balance between aesthetic appeal and practicality to guarantee that every map has distinct strategic advantages. The immersive experience is enhanced by the sound design, which grounds each combat in a physical reality with sounds like the pleasant *clink* of reloading and the resonant boom of a Spartan's footstep.

Pros
  • Engaging combat and innovative equipment mechanics that enhance gameplay and cater to various playstyles.
  • Diverse game modes cater to a range of player preferences.
  • They did listen to the complaints about the game’s grindy nature and they improved daily XP rewards that kinda reduced the grind in battle pass progression.

Cons
  • Progression system improvements still sought by the community.
  • Battle pass rewards are lacking excitement due to emphasis on paid cosmetics.

Conclusion

In summary, this title offers a variety of interesting combat features, a wide range of game modes, and substantial enhancements to its battle pass and progression systems. The developer's efforts demonstrate a dedication to improving the game, even though there are some frustrating aspects of the journey, such as the grindy progression and the need for more lucrative unlockables. There's not much of a reason not to try this game out given it’s free-to-play. The game delivers enough diversity and excitement to be worth a look, regardless of your experience level as a Spartan or your familiarity with the Halo universe. Its multiplayer ecosystem is always changing, so now is as good a time as any to get started because it looks like the experience will only get better.

Early Access Review
Sassy Girl

I Thought The Main Character Was A Sassy Girl…

At its core, Sassy Girl places you in the shoes of a guy working at a gossip magazine, surrounded by beautiful women, leading to some rather...let's say intriguing…adventures. It's a departure from the developers' previous work, where you played as a girl, but it brings its own set of charms.

About This Game

Storyline

The storyline is pretty engaging. You play as this cool young man who's had his share of misfortunes but is now working at Sassy Girl magazine. The narrative revolves around your interactions with various women, each with their own unique personalities. For instance, Beatrice, the handyman secretary, is one of the characters you'll get to know. Despite being smart and caring, she finds her life and work boring and craves adventure. The way the story unfolds depends heavily on the choices you make, affecting your relationships and the game's outcome. It's fascinating to see how even small decisions can lead to significant changes in the storyline, including whether or not certain scenes will play out. Trust me, don’t give up on the game in like 30 minutes. Keep on playing it to experience the impact of your choices.

Gameplay Mechanics

The gameplay is choice-driven, and I cannot stress enough how important your decisions are. Each choice you make influences your relationships and the story's direction. It's pretty intense because a wrong decision can drastically alter your path, especially when navigating the tricky waters of romantic or sexual scenes. There's this constant tension about what might happen next, which keeps things really interesting.

Visuals and Audios

The game is visually stunning. The amount of CG is jaw-dropping, with scenes changing after just a few lines of dialogue. The level of detail in each render, especially during the more intimate scenes, is impressive. Not to mention, there are some animated scenes that add depth to the storytelling. But as always, I wish they included more animated scenes. The audio complements the situations really well although it’s pretty basic, enhancing the overall immersive experience of the game. It’s better than playing a quiet VN.

Pros
  • Engaging storyline with complex character development.
  • Impactful choice-driven gameplay.
  • Impressive visuals and detailed CG.
  • A broad range of characters and scenarios.
  • Background Music with random sound effects which adds to the game’s immersion.

Cons
  • The game is currently in Early Access, so some bugs can be expected. Personally, I haven’t encountered any or might have missed them but I have seen people complain about an achievement bug.

Conclusion

Sassy Girl is definitely a game worth checking out if you're into visual novels that offer a rich narrative and the ability to shape the story through choices. While it has its quirks, like being in Early Access and focusing heavily on erotic adventures, the depth of character interaction and the impact of your decisions make for a compelling experience. I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing how the developers expand the game and refine it further. If you're into games that blend drama, romance, and a bit of adventure, Sassy Girl might just be your next favorite.

Overwatch 2

A Failed Attempt To Revive The Game

Entering the world of Overwatch 2, I was fueled by a mix of anticipation and nostalgia, especially given the impactful legacy of its predecessor. The original Overwatch was a landmark in team-based shooters, combining vibrant characters with dynamic gameplay. So, naturally, my expectations for this sequel were high, with hopes of it pushing the boundaries even further. But as I delved deeper into the game, it became increasingly clear that Overwatch 2, while carrying the torch of its name, stumbled in ways that are hard to overlook. Let's break down what makes this game a shadow of what it could have been. Keep in mind that I will be comparing this title to Overwatch 1 a lot.

About This Game

Storyline

The storyline in Overwatch 2 was a major disappointment for me. It lacked the depth and innovation I was hoping for, especially considering the rich lore established in the first game. The character arcs seemed flat, with new heroes failing to bring any significant narrative to the table. It felt as if the game was content to rest on the laurels of its predecessor without making any meaningful strides in storytelling. This neglect of narrative development was a real missed opportunity to deepen the game's universe and engage players on a more emotional level.

Gameplay Mechanics

Combat
The combat in Overwatch 2 is another area that warrants discussion. It's an integral part of the gameplay experience, yet it feels like it hasn't evolved much from the original game.
  • Combat Dynamics: The dynamics of the combat feel off-kilter. The pacing often swings between being too chaotic to moments where it's unexpectedly sluggish. This inconsistency makes it hard to find a rhythm during matches, leading to a disjointed experience. In a game where teamwork and strategy should be paramount, these erratic shifts in tempo can be disorienting.
  • Hero Balance: A key issue in the combat is the balance among the heroes. Some heroes clearly have an edge over others, making certain matchups feel unfair. This imbalance disrupts the strategic aspect of the game, where ideally, each hero should have strengths and weaknesses that players can exploit or counter. Instead, it often comes down to who has the more powerful heroes, detracting from the skill and teamwork aspect. For instance, I feel like the new hero “Mauga” is too overpowered.
  • Tactical Depth: There's also a noticeable lack of tactical depth in the combat. In Overwatch, the joy of combat was often in the clever use of hero abilities and teamwork to outmaneuver opponents. In Overwatch 2, this seems diluted. The new heroes and abilities don't add much to the tactical play, often feeling more like gimmicks than meaningful contributions to the combat system. The player base is pretty small right now which means matchmaking is messed up. New players are getting pitted against high-level players. This is not an experience someone is eager to go through when they play a game for the first time.

Game Modes
As for the game modes, there's not much new to talk about. The standard modes like Payload and Control Points are back, but they don't feel any different from the first game. The absence of innovative modes or significant tweaks to the existing ones makes the game feel like a retread rather than a sequel. The introduction of a few new maps doesn't do enough to alleviate this sense of deja vu.

Heroes
The new heroes introduced are a mixed bag. While they bring fresh abilities to the game, they don't quite integrate well with the existing roster. Some heroes feel overpowered, overshadowing the older ones, disrupting the game's balance. The lack of significant updates or changes to the original heroes adds to the feeling of stagnation, making the gameplay feel repetitive rather quickly.

Why is the game hated so much?
Overwatch 2 has Overwhelmingly Negative reviews on Steam with a rating of 2/10. Rather than reading through all the reviews just to find out why, here’s a TL:DR version:
  1. Minimal Changes from Overwatch 1: We feel that Overwatch 2 is more of a minor update than a full-fledged sequel. They point out that the graphics and gameplay are only slightly improved, with few new maps, heroes, and only one new game mode.
  2. Development and Content Issues: The development of Overwatch 1 was halted for years with promises of substantial content for Overwatch 2. However, players are disappointed as only a minor new game mode was added, and other promised content, like the PVE campaign, was canceled.
  3. Monetization and Accessibility: The shift to a free-to-play model introduced heavy microtransactions. This change made obtaining items and new characters, especially without paying, a grind. The best characters and skins are perceived as locked behind a paywall.
  4. Company Ethical Concerns: There's a growing distrust in Blizzard due to various ethical concerns, including allegations of workplace misconduct and a focus on profit over quality game development. This distrust has negatively impacted the reception of Overwatch 2.
  5. Impact on Player Base: The requirement to play and win numerous matches to unlock new characters is seen as overly taxing, especially for new players who didn't own the first game. Who would want to play 150 matches to unlock all the default characters which were free-to-use in Overwatch 1?

Visuals & Audio

Visually, the game is decent – it's got that classic Overwatch look. But honestly, there's nothing new or particularly impressive. It kind of feels like they just put a new coat of paint on the old game. The audio doesn't fare much better. The soundtrack is forgettable, and there's a lack of impactful sound design which could have added so much to the gameplay experience.

Pros
  • Retains the core Overwatch gameplay style
  • Some visual improvements over the original
  • Introduction of new heroes and maps
  • Free-to-play model potentially attracting new players

Cons
  • Lacks significant innovation; feels like an incremental update rather than a true sequel
  • Canceled PVE campaign and other promised content
  • Heavy reliance on microtransactions and a grind-heavy system for unlocking new characters
  • Ethical concerns with the developer, Blizzard, affecting player trust
  • Imbalance in hero power and abilities
  • Allegations of workplace misconduct within Blizzard
  • General sentiment of disappointment among the player community due to unmet expectations and changes in game direction.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Overwatch 2 has been a significant letdown for many in the gaming community. Its failure to innovate significantly from its predecessor, coupled with unfulfilled promises of new content and a heavy-handed approach to microtransactions, has tarnished its reception. The ethical concerns surrounding Blizzard have further fueled the discontent. While it retains some elements of the original's charm, these issues overshadow the game's potential, leading to a sense of disappointment and skepticism about its future. Overwatch 2, as it stands, is a stark reminder of how a sequel can miss the mark.

THE FINALS

The Game That Revolutionizes Multiplayer Shooters

The Finals has emerged as a groundbreaking title in the competitive shooter genre, captivating players with its unique blend of high-octane gameplay and innovative features. Set in a futuristic game show, it combines intense action with a strategic depth that challenges players to think and react quickly. The game's emphasis on destructible environments and dynamic movement adds a layer of complexity and excitement, making each match unpredictable and thrilling. With continuous updates and enhancements, The Finals keeps evolving, offering fresh experiences to both new and seasoned players.

About This Game

Storyline

The Finals is set in a vibrant, futuristic world where players participate in a high-stakes game show. In this setting, contenders from various backgrounds come together to compete in intense, action-packed battles. The game's storyline is more about creating a thematic backdrop for the gameplay rather than a traditional narrative. This setting provides a unique and exciting atmosphere that enhances the competitive and strategic elements of the game, making each match not just a battle for survival, but also a performance on a grand, televised stage.

Gameplay Mechanics

This game is rich in gameplay mechanics and features. Let me break down the vital ones:

Movement
In The Finals, movement is a pivotal aspect of gameplay, characterized by fluidity and agility. The game allows players to seamlessly navigate the environment, bolstered by advanced parkour elements like running, jumping, and climbing. These capabilities enable creative map traversal. Recent updates have honed these mechanics, especially in movements such as vaulting and zipline usage, making them more intuitive and responsive. This mobility not only contributes to the game's pace but also introduces new tactical and strategic layers. Positioning and environmental awareness become crucial for success. Furthermore, the game differentiates contenders based on build types - Light, Medium, and Heavy - each with distinct movement speeds. Light contenders are the quickest, fostering an agile playstyle, while Heavy contenders, though slower, offer increased resilience. This variety in mobility among different builds injects strategic depth into the game, prompting players to choose a contender that aligns with their preferred gameplay approach.

Combat & Loadout
The Finals features a versatile loadout system that allows players to customize their gameplay experience according to their preferred playstyle. Here's a breakdown of how the loadout system works:
  • Class-Based Loadouts: The game has different classes like Light, Medium, and Heavy, each with unique characteristics. Players can choose a class that suits their playstyle, whether it's fast-paced and agile, balanced, or more defense-oriented.
  • Weapons and Gadgets: Within each class, players can select from a variety of weapons and gadgets. This includes primary and secondary weapons, explosives, and special equipment. The choice of weapons and gadgets significantly influences how players approach combat situations.
  • Customization and Strategy: The loadout system allows for strategic depth. Players can experiment with different combinations of weapons and gadgets to find what works best for their strategy or to counter the strategies of their opponents.
  • Unlockable Content: As players progress through the game, they unlock new weapons, gadgets, and other items, expanding their options for loadout customization. This progression adds a sense of achievement and encourages experimentation with different combat styles.

Game Modes
As of now, we are offered a total of 3 game modes:
  1. Quick Cash: This mode is akin to a blend of Capture the Flag and King of the Hill. Teams battle for a vault filled with money, creating dynamic and intense confrontations.
  2. Bank It: A more straightforward combat-focused mode where players accumulate cash by various means and deposit it before dying. This mode has been expanded with a Solo variant, offering an individual competitive experience.
  3. Tournament Mode: Here, players engage in a more competitive format of Quick Cash with modified rules. It involves multiple rounds with the best teams advancing, culminating in a final showdown.

Visuals and Audios

In my opinion, the visuals are quite striking. The game showcases clean and colorful maps, with settings like Las Vegas standing out for their visual appeal. The use of virtual renditions of real-world locations adds an intriguing layer to the futuristic game show theme. What really impresses me visually is the game's destruction technology. Watching environments collapse in real-time during the chaos of combat is not only visually stunning but also adds a dynamic element to the gameplay. However, I do feel that, while aesthetically pleasing, the maps could benefit from a more distinctive identity to make them truly memorable.

On the audio front, this title makes an interesting choice with its AI voiceovers. The game features AI-generated commentators who react and respond to in-game events, which is an innovative concept in a multiplayer shooter. However, I find that the execution is a bit mixed. The AI voices, while a novel idea, lack depth and personality, sometimes coming across as rather dull and not adding much to the game's atmosphere. Additionally, while the overall sound design is decent, I think improvements, especially in directional audio, could enhance the player's ability to locate other players by sound, which is crucial in a fast-paced game like this.

Pros
  • The game's use of advanced destruction technology greatly enhances the visual appeal and adds a dynamic layer to gameplay.
  • The movement and combat systems are fluid, offering a high level of agility and tactical variety.
  • Different classes like Light, Medium, and Heavy provide varied playstyles, catering to different player preferences
  • The inclusion of modes like Quick Cash, Bank It, and the new Solo variant for Bank It offers diverse gameplay experiences.
  • The maps are visually pleasing, with colorful and clean aesthetics.
  • The game is free-to-play, with microtransactions focusing on cosmetics, avoiding pay-to-win scenarios

Cons
  • The implementation of AI voiceovers, while innovative, has been criticized for lacking depth and being somewhat monotonous
  • The game could benefit from improved directional audio for better spatial awareness in combat
  • While the maps are visually interesting, they lack a unique identity that could make them more memorable

Conclusion

In conclusion, The Finals stands out as an innovative addition to the competitive shooter genre. Its dynamic gameplay, characterized by highly destructible environments and diverse class options, offers a thrilling and tactical experience. While the visuals are generally impressive, there's room for improvement in giving the maps a more distinctive identity. The audio aspect, particularly the AI voiceovers, is an innovative attempt but falls short in terms of depth and engagement. Despite these minor drawbacks, the game's commitment to fair play with a focus on cosmetic microtransactions is commendable. Overall, this is a promising title that delivers a unique and engaging experience, especially for those who enjoy teamwork and strategic gameplay.

Apex Legends

Titanfall 3 When

I've been diving deep into the world of Apex Legends on PC and let me tell you, it's been a wild ride. Apex Legends isn't your average battle royale game; it stands out with its unique blend of characters, abilities, and high-octane gameplay. I'm excited to share my experience with you, breaking down the game's storyline, gameplay mechanics, visuals, audio, and more. So, grab your favorite snack, and let's jump into the electrifying world of Apex Legends!

About This Game

Storyline

Apex Legends takes place in a universe where the Frontier War has ended, and peace seems to be a possibility. However, to maintain peace, the Apex Games were created. These games are a brutal battle royale where legends from all corners of the Frontier compete for fame, glory, and fortune.

The lore is rich and evolves with each season, revealing more about the legends' backstories and the world they inhabit. For example, Wraith, with her interdimensional abilities, is struggling to uncover her past, while Bloodhound, a technological tracker, follows the path of the Old Norse Gods. The game doesn't shove the lore in your face, but if you're like me and love digging into stories, you'll find plenty of lore scattered throughout the game in voice lines, cinematics, and environmental storytelling.

Gameplay Mechanics

Apex Legends' gameplay is where the game truly shines. It's a mixture of strategy, skill, and quick thinking. I'll break down the key mechanics:

Characters (Legends)
Each legend has a unique personality, backstory, and set of abilities, including a passive, tactical, and ultimate ability. These abilities can significantly influence your playstyle and strategy. For instance, Gibraltar provides defensive capabilities with his shield, while Lifeline focuses on healing and support.

As of now, there are a total of 25 different legends you can unlock and play as. To unlock a Legend, you need a total of 12k legend tokens which can be earned by leveling up. You get 600 tokens per level which means you have to level up 20 times to unlock a legend. There is also the Pay-To-Unlock route where you can buy Apex Coins using real money then use that to unlock the legends you want.

The legends are divided into different classes with class-specific unique perks as follows:
  1. Assault: Combat Utility & Initiation. Assault Legends can access the extra compartment in weapon supply bins and can carry extra ammo.
  2. Skirmisher: Combat Mobility & Escape. Skirmisher Legends have the passive ability known as “Care Package Insight” which allows them to see the contents of a care package before it even lands.
  3. Recon: Enemy Intel & Tracking. Recon Legends can access Survey Beacons which reveal the location of all enemies in the map for a brief period of time.
  4. Controller: Area Setup & Control. Controller Legends can access Ring Consoles which show the team the location of the next ring.
  5. Support: Team Survival & Supply. Support Legends can access the extra compartment in the Extended Supply Bins and also allow the whole team to craft ally banners using Replicators.

Movement
One of the first things you'll notice in Apex Legends is the fluidity and dynamics of movement. This isn't just about running and gunning; it's about mastering the art of maneuverability.
  • Advanced Movement Techniques: Players can slide down slopes for increased speed, climb up higher walls than in most shooters, and use zip lines to quickly change positions. This verticality and flexibility add a whole new dimension to combat and exploration.
  • Parkour Elements: The game incorporates parkour-like elements. You can vault over obstacles, slide through narrow gaps, and even perform a 'bunny hop' to maintain momentum while healing. Mastering these movements can significantly improve your survival and combat effectiveness.
  • Balloon Redeploy: Scattered across the map are redeploy balloons that you can use to quickly ascend and then glide across the map, repositioning your team or escaping a tight spot. This feature adds an extra layer of strategic movement.
  • No Fall Damage: A key feature in Apex Legends is the absence of fall damage, encouraging players to take daring leaps from heights without fear of health penalties. This freedom supports the game's emphasis on high-speed, three-dimensional combat.

Visuals & Audio

Visually, Apex Legends is stunning. The game's world is vibrant and detailed, with varied environments like deserts, cities, and forests. The character designs are impressive, each legend having a distinct look that fits their personality.

The audio design deserves praise too. Gunshots, footsteps, and voice lines are crisp and clear, providing not just immersion but also valuable information during gameplay. You can often hear enemy movements before seeing them, adding a layer of strategy to the game.

Pros
  • Diverse legends with unique abilities.
  • Effective non-verbal communication via ping system.
  • Fluid and engaging movement mechanics.
  • Strategic squad-based gameplay.
  • Regular content updates and balance changes.
  • Immersive graphics and audio.
  • Continuously evolving lore.
  • Wide range of weapons for different combat styles.
  • Competitive ranked play mode.
  • Active community and developer interaction.

Cons
  • Challenging for newcomers to learn all mechanics.
  • Occasional server issues and connectivity problems.
  • Intensely competitive environment.
  • Limited options for solo play.
  • Requires substantial time investment for unlocking features.
  • Periodic bugs and glitches.

Conclusion

Apex Legends on PC is a standout title in the battle royale genre, offering a unique blend of characters, engaging gameplay mechanics, stunning visuals, and immersive audio that creates a captivating gaming experience. However, it's important to note that the game may not be as beginner-friendly as some might hope. The matchmaking system has been a point of contention, often placing new players in lobbies with high-ranked, experienced players. This can make the initial learning curve quite steep and potentially frustrating for newcomers.

Despite this challenge, the pros of Apex Legends still significantly outweigh the cons. The game's adrenaline-pumping action, strategic squad play, and rich lore provide a diverse array of attractions for different types of players. If you're up for the challenge and willing to navigate through the initial hurdles, Apex Legends offers a rewarding experience. So, if you haven't tried it yet, I'd still recommend giving Apex Legends a shot. Who knows, with some perseverance and practice, you might just become the next champion of the Apex Games!

Scream or Die - Virtual Circus

The Circus I’d Take The People I Hate To

Brace yourselves, because this is one rollercoaster of a wannabe “horror game” that you might not be eager to hop on. This developer (Hede) is known for making ♥♥♥♥♥♥ games so I never had high hopes when I hopped into this title. Luckily, I was ready for the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I was about to encounter.

About This Game

Storyline

The so-called premise is simple: you're trapped in a maze with a weird looking animatronic, and your goal is to escape. Sounds thrilling, right? But here's the catch - the game doesn't really flesh out this concept. You're thrown into the maze as soon as the game starts, and that's about it. No backstory, no context, just a maze and some robotic pursuer. The entire game feels very lazily made.

Gameplay Mechanics

The gameplay hinges on a self-proclaimed unique mechanic: you scream (by pressing the 'F' key) to ward off the animatronic. Interesting idea, but it's barely a gameplay element. The scream has a cooldown, which could have added a strategic layer, but unfortunately, the game is so brief and undemanding that this feature feels pointless. Plus, the enemy AI is a letdown. The animatronic clips through walls and bizarrely bounce back when they reach you, reducing any sense of threat or challenge. It just exists for the sake of existing, it literally can’t trigger a game over sequence when it catches you. I have also made a game similar to this but I am sure it has way better mechanics and an actual gameplay loop.

Visuals and Audios

The game is a literal eyesore. The maze is excessively bright, feels like a literal flashbang, making it more of a torture than an immersive experience. As for the audio, it's a loop of the same music and one annoying dialogue, contributing to the overall monotony.

Pros
Nothing, I hate this game.

Cons
  • Extremely short gameplay, finished in under a minute.
  • No actual gameplay loop.
  • Absurdly overpriced for the content it offers. It’s literally 200 USD.
  • Ugly visuals with overly bright colors.
  • Repetitive and unengaging audio.
  • Extremely useless enemy AI with no real interaction.

Conclusion

To sum it up, Scream or Die - Virtual Circus is a letdown. The game's concept had somewhat of a potential, but it falls flat with its lack of depth, poor execution, and minimal content. The asking price is exorbitant, considering you can beat the game in less time than it takes to make a cup of coffee. It's a maze that leads nowhere, a horror experience that fails to scare, and a game that feels more like a half-baked experiment than a finished product. Sadly, this is one circus you might want to skip.

Sex Search

No, You Don’t Search For Sex

After a bit of research, I’ve come to the conclusion that Slippy Floor makes a lot of low-effort NSFW games. The gameplay of their titles is usually extremely simple and not really fun. This one in particular is different from their other games since it is Free-To-Play. But yes, it is still disappointing.

About This Game

Storyline

It doesn’t follow a storyline of any kind. The concept is straightforward: you're presented with an exorcism scene where the objective is to locate 10 hidden items of clothing. The game attempts to spice things up with its adult-themed rewards, but frankly, it's a flimsy premise that feels more like a thinly veiled excuse for its erotic content rather than a compelling storyline.

Gameplay Mechanics

Sex Search offers three modes: Normal, Random, and Time Attack. Each mode tweaks the gameplay slightly, from relaxed searching to frantic item-hunting against the clock. However, the excitement wears thin quickly. The "unique system" for placing items is anything but innovative, often leading to frustration rather than enjoyment. Items frequently overlap, making them hard to spot, and the gameplay overall feels repetitive and uninspired.

Visuals and Audios

Visually, the game disappoints. With only five pictures that range from mediocre to downright poor in quality, it's hard to stay engaged. The black and white stripes and figures that make up the bulk of the game's design do little to enhance the experience. On the audio front, the four switchable tracks are a small redeeming factor, but they can't carry the game on their own.

Pros
  • Free to play.
  • Includes a music selection feature (F1 key).
  • Has achievements, for those who care.

Cons
  • Lackluster and limited visuals.
  • No full-screen option, limiting immersion.
  • Gameplay quickly becomes monotonous.
  • The images and concept feel cheap and underdeveloped.
  • Achievements are tedious to obtain.

Conclusion

Sex Search is a clear miss in the realm of adult-themed games. Its attempt at combining erotica with a logic game falls flat due to uninspired gameplay, subpar visuals, and an overall sense of monotony. The fact that it's free does little to offset these shortcomings. It's a game that tries to appeal to adult gamers looking for a mix of challenge and arousal but fails to deliver on either front. In short, even for a free game, it's not worth the time.
