PAYDAY: The Heist stands as a stylish and fun CO-OP FPS to this day, with a fulfilled vision to be a consistently serious and gritty experience, something its sequels lost.

7 wonderfully crafted episodes (9 if you consider DLC): Cinematic, intense and rewarding, all with high replayability as a result of the many randomly generated elements on the maps. Simon Viklund's excellent disco beat has great effect in your quest for wealth, putting down all law enforcers deployed to put an end to your little trolling.

Despite the narrow color pallet of the in-game textures, the game is vibrant with cleverly crafted character backgrounds, locations, contextual storytelling, voice acting and pop-culture references.

The police features units with different equipment, tactics and cool aesthetics, modestly grounded in reality, without obnoxious gimmicks. Like their real-world counterpart, the cops consider civilians mere obstacles, and will gladly engage you through a group of them.

The rather small, yet concise, selection of weapons are loud, well-animated and generate lots of heat and smoke. The fact that you can have three firearms equipped at once is a subtle feature but greatly appreciated, rarely leaving you completely dry on bullets with three separate ammo pools.

Leveling up and upgrading your heister is rudimentary, but easy to understand and rewards dedicated players. Internet connection not required to play.

May PAYDAY 4 build on these premises.
