Zoomer Doomer's guide to playing DOOM in 2020:

  1. Open your game's folder and find DOOM.wad. Copy it and move it to a fresh folder. Repeat if you have DOOM II and Final DOOM.
  2. Download ZDL (Pretty much an essential launcher for choosing your base game WADs, source ports, mods, and command line arguments)
  3. Download a source port of choice
-GZDoom: Great for modded game play and graphical stuff like SAO and dynamic lighting. Very poor for vanilla gameplay (use +set dmflags 4521984 in the ZDL launcher to play without jumping, crouching, or freelook; unless you like cheating or something)
-Crispy Doom: Pretty much DOS Doom but with high resolution, widescreen support, and uncapped frame rate. Perfect for vanilla gameplay, but that's pretty much it.
-PrBOOM+: Similar to Crispy Doom but has more compatibility for custom maps like Eviternity (AAA quality WAD) and Sunlust (have fun suffering).
  4. Download OmniMIDI and find a soundfont of choice. Trust me, you'll never want to go back to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Windows GS wavetable synth.

From there you're pretty much set.
    Recommended mods and map sets:
  • Eviternity (GZDoom or PrBOOM+): Must play mega WAD with amazing maps and music. (I spend more time listening to its music than actually playing it lmao). Has fancy visual effects when played on GZDoom.
  • Golden Souls 2 (GZDoom required): Super Mario 64 inspired mod. Probably the only time you'll want to have jump, crouch, and freelook on.
  • Sunlust (PrBOOM+ recommended): For the masochist who thinks ultra violence fast monsters on Plutonia is too easy.
  • Sigil (Crispy Doom recommended): A technically official 5th episode for Ultimate DOOM by John Romero (an original developer of classic DOOM)
brootal doom overrated dont play :p why do i have 177 hours on a boomer game?
