The amount of care put into the movement and camera alone makes it worth playing, but this game has charm for days to boot. Major Super Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker vibes, and little nods to many other titles (Banjo Kazooie, Psychonauts), but it holds up very well on its own as a brand new IP that gets a *lot* of things right. It would be lovely if this level of quality became the standard for similar projects in the future.

Pros:

-Controls are tight and movement abilities chain together very well, making the game quite forgiving of minor mistakes. That same moveset allows for some very creative speedrunning as well. You never feel like something is out of your control.

-The dialogue and general sense of humor are great, and really add to the game's style and charm.

-Most of the acts have several chapters taking place in the same explorable environment. This really lets you get to know the area and explore every nook and cranny without necessarily repeating the same chapter, and they're large enough to support this kind of exploration.

-Character customization via unlockable color sets and different hat skins.

-Remixes of the game's soundtrack were included as unlockables in the game.

-Menu includes descriptions of what various settings actually do.

-Two free additional chapters will be added later, per the kickstarter stretch goals.

-Workshop content to play around with in the meantime.

-Levels can be played mostly out of order, with the exception of a few requiring specific badges or items to complete.

-No unreasonable achievements.

-Cute-as-heck, of course.


Cons:

-If 3D platforming isn't your thing, this game probably isn't your cup of tea.

-A bit on the short side if you aren't keen to collect everything there is to collect, 100% the achievements, etc.

-If backtracking irks you, you will probably dislike that some early areas have hidden treasure that you will need from later on in the game to access.

-A menu option to restart a level would have made aiming for certain conditional achievements less bothersome.

Oddly satisfying in a very katamari damacy kind of way. Katamari dameowcy? No? Okay. :(
