A lot like PS2/PS3 era Gundam games - perhaps a little bit 'dumbed down' from Versus if you're coming from that.

The gameplay definitely feels like a PSP/Vita game (obviously, given this is a remaster) - controls are sometimes janky feeling which can lead to fighting with the camera especially when locked on.

Definitely not as strategy heavy as Battle Record UC 0081 or Zeonic Front but the missions are reminiscent of PS2 era games like Journey to Jaburo (e.g. Stage - Fight stuff - Boss appears - End).

Graphically looks decent and performs well but the maps aren't very detailed - that said it's hard to fault a Vita game for this.

Story-wise you probably need to have watched Seed to understand anything but it's a typical Gundam setup (Earth Alliance vs Zaft instead of Fed v Zeon). Not much of an in-game story outside of missions that follow a timeline, brief descriptions, and in-mission pilot dialogue which is mostly just quips.

There is a cool selection of mobile suits along with pilots. Plenty of missions although not much variety. The mobile suit tuning system is cool if you're into tweaking things, too.

Overall - pretty solid and hopefully supporting this leads to other remasters (like UC0081 or even Side Story 0079!) or IDK, Bandai making an actual reboot.

this was pre 1.1 - so some of these issues may have been fixed.

kinda wish there was a neutral review for this. really feels like early access. will be good eventually.

first half of the game is great, second half is extremely buggy.
like having to use console to fix multiple main story missions/situations type buggy.
very reminiscent of soc initially, so there's that for nostalgia.

damage, loot, and durability balancing is awful on veteran (my own fault). quick save often.

bosses are mostly meat sponges and base game has occasional 1 hit kill mechanics.

loot variety is very minimal, no monster loot at launch is also a strange omission.

a-life 2.0 kinda needs more time in the kitchen and the zone doesn't feel super alive when sprinting across it because of this. in general npc spawning feels a bit wonky and almost like it's 'catching up' to wherever you are in the world.

not sure why the last quarter of the game averages running 2km away between every objective, this just makes the world feel even more empty. pretty, though.

mostly good performance on a high-end pc, but with a lot of npcs stuff can dip from 144 to 60fps.
post-fx and extreme weather (like emissions) seem to also hit fps hard. in ~60 hours i probably crashed about 4 times.

tldr; it's got good bones, but patience is also a virtue.

loading screen simulator,
empty worlds,
menu & ui are rough by modern standards,
companions can be annoying,
decent grafx,
dlss behind a patreon?
3rd time is the charm for paid mods and overpriced currency

honestly the worst part is just really bad scaling for difficulty, everything becomes a bullet sponge above normal.
i waited for mods to fix this but most have issues due to difficulty and modifiers affecting land and space combat, perhaps the monetized stuff and creation kit can fix this - or you can just play elite/x/star citizen instead.

this could really just have been a total conversion for skyrim it's so shallow.
steam really needs a 'meh' rating, game isn't great nor is it really bad. just mid.
