You might not know me, I'm Hwaldar Richards. I've been hosting Machines files on my youtube channel for a while (both uploaded by Vash and myself). If you ever need them just send a message! It's pretty much the base game files with extra stuff included, the game works perfectly fine on a Win7 64-bit PC.

Hello all! Yet another Machines player here- I have had it running on my old Win XP Pro for a while now- and only just found this group. Nice to see there is effort in trying to get it to run on modern systems, my XP may not last that much longer, but we will see :).

ill provide the d3drm.dll file, so you dont have to look for one and worry bout its validity. ive scanned mine with norton, kapersky, malwarebytes, and spybot search and destroy, its clean on all of em. download it from http://www.adrive.com/public/mfuyUs/d3drm.dll or from http://www.mediafire.com/download/13k65kajqq4pmq0/d3drm.dll and place it in the same directory as the machines exe file (Acclaim Entertainment\Machines) and in the data folder just to be safe (Acclaim Entertainment\Machines\data) after that reboot your machine.


ONLY DO THE FOLLOWING IF THE ABOVE DOES'NT WORK:
copy paste the file into your C:\Windows\System32 and then reboot your machine.

thats an easy fix. as its told you you are missing the d3drm.dll file which was used by windows xp and below as part of direct 3d (from what i can find) from vista onwards this file at least is no longer used by windows and was removed. solution in next post

Alright I figured outy the problem, a different program was trying to run the cd.
So i've gotten it installed and applied the patch, now I have a new problem vlol
When i try and run the game it get a system error stating that d3drm.dll is missing.
Any ideas anyone?

Gday guys, can't say how awesome it is that there is a group for machines!
I've downloaded the game, created a vertual drive :D and attached the ISO image to it but i cant install the game. When i click on setup up my mouse icon displays the 'thinking' wheel for a minute then does nothing.
Any idieas?

Hello, I'm having a little problem...glad this group has been posting recently aswell! I downloaded Machines:Wired For War on ISOzone on my windows 8.1 and when I get to run the game all it says "This app can't run on your PC" I tried everything compatibility and run as administrator...nothing :( anyone who has a patch or something that would be appreciated.

@wraith. i assume you are using a virtual cd drive. the music wont work because machines only looks in the D:\ directory for the music files. you have to change the virtual drive letter to that for music to work. but if you have a actual cd/dvd drive you would need to change that to something else first. look here: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/f/change-drive-letter.htm

Wait wait, you got 1080p to work? SHARE YOUR SECRETS. The resolution in my settings screen only goes up to 1024 or something... and when I try to set it higher in the registry it goes to the lowest setting ._.
Also, I still don't know how to get the music to work. Not even sure if I have the music files lol.

I also miss the menu transitions… I remember it was really cool moving around this pcb board from menu to menu, but now these animations are so fast we barely notice them.

And it’s quite curious the way they did the wheels on the game: just a simple front and back texture with a black plane always facing the viewer in the middle. It’s so simple, yet makes the wheels appear as round as in nowadays games; I wonder why I never saw this technique used in other games.

Hey guys! I just got nostalgic and decided to fire up Machines after all these years.
All I need to do was install the game, the Win 2k/XP patch and get this d3drm.dll Microsoft decided to remove from Windows 7; didn’t even need to set any compatibility mode.
And wow, wasn’t I surprised to find such an old game supported and ran just fine at 1080p resolution!
I also used _inmm together with Digital CD Player to get the music switching and looping correctly.
Now if only there was a way to disable the LOD models, or at least increase the distance at which they’re drawn…
Because the game has quite detailed models, but you gotta zoom in on your units/buildings for the game to switch to them.
Back in the days, this feature must have been really important to maintain performance and the player probably didn’t even notice any difference due to the lower resolutions used, but today it’s just annoying… XP

ok to reset resolution to 1920x1080 (it works fine on my pc) just edit with regedit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Acclaim Entertainment\Machines\Screen Resolution

after changing the resolution the game does not starts anymore, just a black screen ._."

I had it years ago and I've installed it again today on mi Windows 8 x64 machine. It starts (not always) and it's very slow and with lot of fuchsia graphic gliteches... Any solution?

as of now these 2 still work and (at least for me) neither should take more than 45 min to download, but that depends on your internet.

whats in the zip file:
-- the image files - i personally made these from original machines disks using Alcohol 120%, which i did actually pay for
-- what is basically a digital version of the manual that came with the retail version of the game (made by using a scanner on the manual, its all easily readable)
-- the only game trainer in existence for this game (it gives you BMU's, however many you put in the text box up to 9999)
--instructions in the .txt file.

Hi guys, another machines player here!
I remember that on the old wiredforwar.org site there was a discussion about the developement of an inde version of the game, that even reached some really aerly alpha stages (just a map with a scout that you could command). any idea/info on how that project ended up?

I folks, I've checked out ren9999 7thFeb2014 comment and found that Rapid share is limiting standard accounts to just 1gb of downloads per day. as it happens the link given is slightly over a gig of data and so isn't available unless you have a paid membership for rapid share, not cheap £40 a month is a ridiculous price for the average person to pay. What is worse is that as of the 1stJuly2014 Rapid share will be removing the standard account service and becoming exclusively a premium service group.
Has anyone got these files available for sharing from another source?

@misterdel to the best of my knowledge yes. and as to getting it to work... install the xp patch and run in compatability mode for win xp. if that doesnt work start a discussion in the discussions tab
