Now updated Steam client, because no one found out friendlist sign in workaround for old client. Some idiots posted workarounds on Steam client beta group, of course Valve patched those.
Only thing what i dislike is Steam overlay in-game. Pixelvision skin had that more simple.

Don't count it out yet, I am busy, and I bearly got any energy left when I got any so small time
But when I can I will take what I can to try and make a comptibale version of the skin for the new client, if Valve likes it or not

Valve blocked purchasing and friendlist sign in on May 30th 2023 client. I guess that version is done now...

A workaround was figured out in terms using an older build of Steam. Details were posted in the DO NOT UPDATE discussion thread.

I can confirm that -vgui no longer works on the new steam update.

For anyone who doesn't know, click on your steam.exe shortcut, under the shortcut tab, in the target url, add the vgui part just like this after steam.exe part, Steam\Steam.exe" "-vgui"
It should work. I didn't even need to set it back to Pixelvision, it was already selected.

I was already getting used to the new UI, but it being a memory hog and occasionally Crashing/Restarting, it was unacceptable.

Also i'm not 100% sure if the skin is exactly as it was. The top bar definitely is the way it was, but the friends playing game notification, the friends list, the steam chat box, it looks default steam.

I heard -vgui launch parameter restores old UI. Cannot confirm since i've blocked Steam client updates before recent UI update.

There is still a hope that CSS editing could work...

Ok.. so to be clear.. Steam is not going to let you to select a skin
But that was the case for the library, others all ready found a way to by pass that.. so now its just all the client like that.. so it can be done.. just a matter of time to get on it

But if there is even the slightest of hope to have Pixel Vision back, count me in day1. The new ingame overlay, I hate how is just a blackscreen background (I used to have clean transaprency enable for pixelvision).

We might be early, but legit, there is no option within the launcher to even select an skin anymore, so until Valve add such option, every single skin is pretty much done.

Pixelvision was the best skin for Steam, hopefully we will be able to use it again

Sorry I am lacking in time, but will try to find a way to get the skin back up using the new UI what ever it takes as long as Valve don't go aggressive vs it

I'll miss this theme, and i'll eventually get used to the new default ui. But my goodness, let me change my "Friend is playing" popup, its so big and ugly and gray. PLEASE. aaaaaah

F for skins, Pixel Vision was the BEST SKIN for Steam. Thank you for everything and for keep supporting this wonderfull skin for so long.

If you want to block Steam updates from breaking the skin. Before beta client goes live for stable client. Make steam.cfg file into Steam root folder with BootStrapperInhibitAll=enable

It's been years from last I was coding, but if I'm not mistaken SoloLearn has free courses for CSS. For new users who want to learn. I'd help out if I could but I'm not in the best of sorts to do so these days. But I thought I'd share what I could. If it helps.

Its not much coding its more of instructions on style
So you got a selector, that is the thing that tells it kind of effect this type of stuff (like lists, text, areas, titles) using some with a symbol many times coming before to say what type of a selector it is, lets say . for class, # for ID
then inside you set keywords (example: font-color, margin, white-space) and then you got the proprieties for it (for example: Red, 4%, Normal)

So the end result is something like
.blueBigTitleWithSpaceAbove {
font-color: blue;
margin-top: 20px;
font-size: 40px;
}

And the elemnt it be in be something in the sort of
<h1 class="blueBigTitleWithSpaceAbove">Title go here</h1>

So ya.. css is not that hard, it can be messy in some cases :P but over all its pretty simple... for me to use it how ever on the client I want to pass on the files to see how the code is like, and then how the Patcher thing works so I know how to work with it, how to set things, and how can stuff be improved with it

Yes, on that part its good, only part how ever is that will need to redegin everything, as the original files will be of little help (beside colors) with the new CSS format

While it's sad that applying skins wont be as easy anymore, I find this as a "good" thing for Pixelvision because this means that while trying to get the current parts of the skin working, they will learn the same methods that are used to skin the library and be able to do that as well.

It seems new Client can be somewhat modified with CSS editing or how you properly say it.

It may be... will have to see how it go, sadly I just don't have the time to research and work on it at the current time
I did hear Metro and some other skins found a way to modify the Library page so its possible there is a way to get around it and do the same for the client now, as its all updated now to the browser build
Its possible they don't going to allow skins to avoid someone using it for scams or the like, as when the client is just a browser, it opens a lot of hole someone can possible use on it and will need consent security checks that a new hole did not update when they update the browser engine of Steam

But like I said I don't sadly really got time to get on it, so I cant really say yet, but when I have something more solid about if there will be a way or no way I can find I will update

It looks like the latest steam beta update that includes the overhaul removes support for skins, so this might be the end of Pixelvision?
