Greetings and Happy Holidays to all the wonderful constituents of our great community. I thank each one of you that have taken the opportunity to join one of our servers either in the decade past or not too distant future. As 2018 ends, I offer a bit of humble reflection to not only the new faces, but also the handful of individuals who have fought with us for many years. Through Counter-Strike, Rust, Warcraft, PUBG, FortNite, League of Legends, Truck Simulator, Magic: The Gathering, Lineage II, or anything in-between, we are a group forged stronger by diverse gameplay experiences and competitive spirit. Keeping it with the season, I’m going to begin backwards-similar to A Christmas Carol and start as Future Reflection. Looking ahead, you never know what the future holds, but there are countless opportunities for our community to grow. Over two billion people worldwide have experienced gaming at some time or another and thus we are surrounded by players of different ability levels across many different platforms of entertainment. However, we pride ourselves in having a pulse unique to the very core that is Ðefiance. Our continued success is measured not by quantity of population, but of the quality our players provide. Regardless of what new ceilings we achieve in numbers, we will not waiver in recruiting those individuals who support community values with virtuous fury and immeasurable dedication.

Present Reflection brings us to the Rust community. After four weeks of not running a server, and playing on several others, I sincerely missed the interactions with our people. Though admittingly, not all interactions were positive, there are ebb and flows to everything in life. Most of the people who join our server are there with good intentions to play the game as intended but not intentionally harm the integrity of Ðefiance at large. There will be times, my availability is lesser than others, but overall I’m hopeful to keep on track with the wipe schedule and any titanic shift in plugins that may occur. As mentioned prior, I thank those new players who have given us a try thus far, but a deep thank you to those faces that have hopped right back on the train! I have full understanding and no qualms with anyone that has bid us farewell, but to see some of the same faces show love again is very much appreciated.

While mulling over a Past Reflection, it is hard to put experiences together as a structured piece. I have been blessed to have gaming memories that span across two decades and have met countless of individuals from all walks of life. Whether we conquered the Lich King together, competed for Cal-IM in Counter-Strike together, or viciously fought off raiders in the Rust environment together, each of us has some form of continuity as gamers together. Some would question the nature of our time shared “online”, as our platform of interacting is generally in a game, we are all people nonetheless. People who chose to spend time together and strive toward a common goal. Sometimes we lose sight of that fact, and our very nature. I am not excluded from this as my patience with tolerating nonsense has waned with my age, but I believe we are defined by how we rise through the ashes and respond to strife. There are reasons alliances form and disband, reasons for friends to come and go, but memories and achievements live forever.

Such a short piece does not accurately capture our extensive past, exciting present, or prosperous future. My hope is that you have made it this far and reflect upon a positive experience Ðefiance may have brought you at some point in life. Regardless of if you currently are with us, or against us, if there is a joyful memory together then that is all I can ask for. Thank you everyone for the positive memories we have had throughout our lengthy history, for the continued contributions to our cause, and for making it easy to say I am proud to be a founder of this amazing community.
