FRIENDS (and my occasional review followers),

Yesterday I learned a valuable life lesson that may be of importance to you all;, that as a reviewer who ONLY reviews games acquired by my own funds (131 reviews so far), I may be quite rare.

Specifically, I learned that someone I considered a personal friend (and prolific reviewer with approximately 500 followers) was exceptionally dishonest in his reviewing process. This person (who is no longer a friend, and whose reviews I no longer follow) admitted in a public Activity posting for the game Extinction (deleted almost immediately after posting), that not only does he provide ONLY favorable reviews, but that he does so in order to cultivate favorable connections with developers, and that his dishonesty is justified by the income and free games they provide to him. This after stating publicly and repeatedly that he does NOT receive payment for reviews. (And I was foolish enough to not only believe him, but to defend him.)

The point being, I review for exactly TWO REASONS:
1) To give credit to developers for exceptional games, and
2) To warn players of TRASH GAMES, and TRASH DEVELOPERS.

I hereby promise to NEVER accept games free of charge for review purposes, specifically out of the sincere respect I feel for my friends and for honest and interested gamers and developers. Should this ever happen, I will make such "gifts" clear beyond any doubt or question.
