Gentoo Linux

Hi,

Lots of things have happened since the last notifications. However I'll just go over few important things quickly. First of all we have new moderator Heather. Give Heather a warm welcome. You can ask assistance from Heather if you run trouble. I'm here to help you guys too, as usual. =)

So after years of long waiting Valve finally released Steam client for Gnu/Linux. At the moment it should be in public beta, I think. However the catch is that it's been designed to run solely on Ubuntu, and has tons of depencies for that.

There are people figuring it out how to run it on a Gentoo and other distributions. For Gentoo you can use layman to add gamerlay repository (layman -a gamerlay), and then emerge Steam related files (emerge steam-meta).

This small community of ours has also grown quite a bit too. If I had money I'd offer you a free round of beer (or soda) but I don't have that kind of money. Instead I'll offer my thank you for people who are participating. Thank you!

Merry Christmas, and happy new year! 2013 will be super exciting year to be a linux desktop user. (I don't believe 2013 will be the year of the linux desktop but we are certainly walking small steps towards that goal.)

PS. Now that we actually have the Steam on linux, let's show that it was a good decision and worth Valve's time by buying games. I know it's bit bad that they come with DRM. However we might be able to enjoy some newer AAA titles than Unreal Tournament, Doom, Descent, Quake, and others. I'm personally much awaiting for Counter-Strike and other Valve titles. TF2 is for hatmongers. xP
