Hello detectives!

We have a brand new update for you all with a bunch of fixes. Check out the specifics below;

• Revamped camera image saving system; photographs you take in game now should be completely accurate when you load save games as we have switched to a system that saves image data to disk.

• Fixed: Crime scene tape appearance is now represented properly in CCTV images.

• Fixed: Player is now visible again when crouched during actor sighting check.

• Fixed: Player collider sizes could not set correctly when switching between rat/non-rat modes (could result in weird crouched movement).

• Fixed: CCTV did not capture the state of some doors correctly.

• Fixed: Bug with security laser systems not being able to detect citizens/player as well as they should.

• Fixed: Spawned-in sentry guns while alarm triggered could appear inactive when they should be active.

• Fixed: Doors that could contain physics objects now animate in the Fixed Update loop to avoid physics oddities.

• Fixed: Some cases of z-fighting on bannisters.

• Fixed: Fixed a comparison bug when trash wasn't being seen as trash.

• Fixed: Top level bribe for looking around now always works but costs for bribes have been raised & previous bribe chances tweaked to be a little harder.

• Fixed: Multiple active guest passes did not display multiple status icons.

• Fixed: Small visual glitch where status effect progress bars did not match the width of their parent graphic.

• Fixed: Repositioning now works when stuck within a food truck.

• Fixed: Can no longer lose click context while building renaming.

• Fixed: Building names are now immediately reflected in the input field when editing cities.

• Fixed: Small chance of citizens teleporting up staircases while running up them.

• Fixed: A Unity engine security vulnerability issue (affected all Unity games since 2017 and has recently been fixed by Unity).

• Fixed: Unresponsive camera movement when using a gamepad to navigate in the city editor.

You can now activate new modifiers that change the way you play the game.

Including…

Snail Nemesis

You are immortal… However, somewhere, a snail is always slowly moving towards you. If it touches you, you die instantly.

Rat detective

You are the “Rat Detective”. You are only 10cm tall. You can climb on walls and ceilings. You can sneak past people and make less noise. However, if you are spotted, prepare to get stomped on!

Fame and fortune

You are a world-famous detective. Good luck hiding in the shadows while people are chasing you down and asking for your autograph.

Film Noir

Experience the full noir detective life with a black and white filter.

Permadeath and Ironman mode

Hospitals won't help you here… and in some cases, neither will your saved games. 

There are many more modifiers to play with, as well as bug fixes and QOL changes. Jump into the new update and give them a try right now.

• New: New ‘gameplay modifiers’ that allow new, different and weird ways to play the game. See below for a full list of them (warning: some of these are quite silly and are purely designed to be fun optional ways to play…),

• Film Noir: Desaturate the game world with a simple visual adjustment.,

• Ironman: You may only use one save slot per new character. If ‘permadeath’ is also enabled, the save slot is deleted when you die.,

• Gambling Debt: Start with a small fortune in your pocket, but in debt to a loan shark. You have to pay it back each day otherwise you will be hunted and attacked.,

• House Arrest: If you start with an apartment, or as soon as you acquire one you will not legally be allowed to leave it: The building's security will treat you as a threat.,

• Short-Sighted: After a visit to the optician, you now need glasses in your inventory to see properly. If you lose them, your vision will become blurred. Be careful: They can be knocked off in combat or after a fall.,

• Fame & Fortune: You're a famous detective. But be careful what you wish for: Citizens may stop or even chase you down for a chat or your autograph.,

• Snail Nemesis: You are invincible from combat damage aside from contact with a snail. The snail moves towards your current location at all times. Inspired by the 'immortal snail' concept/meme by Gavin Free.,

• Rat Detective: Ditch the trench coat, experience the rat race less figuratively. Claw, crawl, and climb your way through the grime.,

• New: 3 new hidden achievements related to the new modifiers (Steam only),

• New: Save game on exit prompt

• Fixed: Rewritten player control rebinding system; this should solve a lot of previous issues with it. Control schemes will revert to defaults upon load of this patch- this is because we are handling control maps a little differently, and we want to rule out the possibility of players loading in faulty previous control maps. Apologies for any inconvenience.,

• Fixed: Depth of field effect was ignored inside the screen space of the onscreen awareness compass when it was not active.,

• Fixed: Dynamic graffiti no longer displays faulty texture after the player walks a few meters away.,

• Fixed: Muggers now have a cool-down timer, so they won’t repeat muggings instantly.,

• Fixed: Elevator position now saved and loaded properly.,

• Fixed: Bug which caused stuck accelerated citizen animations after passing time.,

• Fixed: Bug with loan shark debt collectors not entering combat with the player properly.,

• Fixed: Bug that stopped the player from getting KO’d by melee damage alone.,

• Fixed: Softened some case board UI sounds.

• Fixed: At least one case of unresponsive UI when pinning CCTV print-outs.

• Fixed: Days of the week now abbreviated when appropriate in most non-ENG languages.

• Fixed: Discovering an employment contract did not update the citizen’s address details.

• Fixed: Discovering an wallet/purse did not update the citizen’s address details.

• Fixed: Player was unable to hold a commemorative bas-boule in their hands (no options for throwing, putting down).

• Fixed: When 2 or more hand-in case routines were active, the processing sound was played twice, leading the first to keep looping after it should stop.

• Fixed: Lost item poster could display its location in a non-existent floor.

• Fixed: Reduced frequency of ‘Watch your back, rat’ note*

• Fixed: Glass interior doors no longer display rain on them

• Fixed: Option for legible text mode was missing on the Address Book

• Fixed: When retiring, a player’s cigarette stayed visible on camera

• Fixed: 2 Cases of building model intersecting interior rooms (inside the residential tower with the large atrium)

• Fixed: Likely fix for some citizens asking for password in legal businesses

• Fixed: El-Gen Clinic managers could cover certain shifts, allowing the clinic to sometimes be open without anyone on the front desk*

• Fixed: Minor change to how doors are handled on the map; player can no longer see doors open outside their area of awareness.

The “Off-Duty” update is live now!

This is our first content update of 2025.

You can now get into the detective spirit and chill with a pack of smokes when a case just gets too demanding (we do not recommend this in real life 😅)

Want to relax after a long day of sleuthing? Try a round of the brand-new digital card game, Wizards. A fantasy-themed grid-based card game. Be the first to bring your AI opponent’s HP to 0 to win. Strategically place your cards on the board, utilise their unique abilities, and watch the battle ensue each turn.

Go a little rogue and take on a secret shoe-stealing side mission (check your local newspaper for details 😜)

This update brings even more bug fixes, game polish and QOL improvements.

Get back on the case, detectives. It won't solve itself!

- New: Smokable cigarettes and cigars! (Steam version only - due to age rating restrictions)
- New: A whole new in-cruncher game; Wizcards.

- New: The player can set their own cruncher passcode in the gameplay options menu.

- Fixed: ‘How Are You Doing’ dialog option spawned the name bribe dialog option.
- Fixed: Player’s belongings were still in their would-be starting apartment, even if the ‘Sandbox Starting Apartment’ setting was turned off. They also had a key.
- Fixed: Some grammar mistakes with double use of ‘hair’ when describing hair type and colour.
- Fixed: Using a cruncher placed in décor mode immediately could cause it (and you) to clip through the floor.
- Fixed: The ‘Seen or Heard Anything Unusual?’ Dialog option did not work when speaking over the telephone.
- Fixed: If the player answered a phone call intended for an NPC, there would be no dialog, and if the player hung up and picked up the phone again they would say the intended receiver’s lines.
- Fixed: Telephone call logs don’t give away too much info in their connections tab.
- Fixed: Loading the game in some rare cases could teleport the player to a different apartment.
- Fixed: Briefcase now more consistently stays inside the world.
- Fixed: Physics live time and physics profile adjusted to ensure Player/NPC's can't kick the briefcase incredibly hard.
- Fixed: Tweaked physics modes on all objects; this should stop them from falling through geometry.
- Fixed: Thrown objects more accurately inherit their initial held position.
- Fixed: Issue where trespassing status would not update after exiting an air vent (would stay on orange/minor level instead of red/severe).
- Fixed: You now cannot drop objects while in an air duct (to avoid them clipping through the side and getting lost)
- Fixed: You can now throw objects through open air vents (previously they would collide with an invisible barrier).
- Fixed: Coat stand collider meant that you couldn’t interact with some items that spawned on its base.
- Fixed: Kettle now has accurate sfx when thrown.
- Fixed: Keypad doors are no longer lock-pickable.
- Fixed: Handles on doors with keypads can no longer be lockpicked.
- Fixed: Geometry hole outside 1st floor windows at City Hall
- Added: Feedback: Call objective updates immediately when calling kidnapper back after setting up briefcase.
