Metal Slug XX brings the classic run-and-gun mayhem to Steam with updated visuals, new character animations, and the full roster from the later Neo Geo entries. The core gameplay, fast shooting, vehicle sections, and explosive boss fights, is still there, but it feels like a slightly diluted compilation rather than a fresh experience.

The pixel art holds up nicely and the action remains chaotic and fun in short bursts, especially with local co-op. However, the difficulty is brutally uneven, some stages drag on, and the lack of meaningful new content or refinements makes it feel dated compared to earlier, tighter entries in the series.

Best enjoyed in short nostalgic sessions with a friend, but it doesn’t stand out in the crowded retro shooter library.

I can say that this game is good enough, I never play the console ver before but I sure really enjoy the gameplay of this port
But yeah, just like anyone else, I also don't really like the "fullscreen" mode that doesn't even a fullscreen but rather get bordered by an art image. Not really ruins the gameplay, but I hope they really make the fullscreen option to be really a fullscreen
