I got so much to say about this game that left me appalling.

First of the overall game is fantastic it has some nice updated mechanics when it comes down to the battle against zombies when you are one on one with those. The driving is phenomenal, I like this addition of a place that feels remote, and you need to drive trough it. It feels here like the fallowing from the first game. The environment is quite unique. But equal to what the following has.

These are things that is a step up from the second installment. But that is actually about it. Everything is the same in regards to what the first one did and the second one implemented a bit better. This is what bothers me about the game, the story. I do not know why, why Techland in mid development if that happen like so, desire to implement this game as a stand alone game and did not wait to cook this game more in the story department.

The gameplay and new additions are fine and all but what is up with this restored land which feels incomplete in a way when it comes to what it supposed to make you feel? You see, the second installment was a well rounded lively world build into two factions that game nuance to this franchise and make this franchise bigger than the previous installment from the second one.

This is not what this third/dlc is at all. How can you make a slam dunk with the second game in all regards from the story, world building and its complexity into a this "third entry" made out of curiosity. The game has potential, but Techland did not let this game have a complex story. A better ending and twist that I by the way at least saw it coming since the very start of the game when Crane ask some one a few questions and that made such character evade it.

My mind was quickly in two lanes of though, in regards of what it did not pay off for me at the end because I saw it coming. This story of this game was predictable and more head scratching when you see this figure that is the antagonist being very secret in his persona presentation that you think he might be a really well complex character to see him looking like he is just another pompous all over himself classical music listener antagonist.

This game in regards to story has very similitudes to both games combine, at the end of the game when you face the main antagonist like in the first one and this so support characters that have some similitudes with how Lawan wanted to do in one of the conversations in regards to what Lawan said to Aiden when first meet him.

I was sitting here thinking, wait what this seems familiar, it feels like many things were copy and pasted in this story development and how all plays out. But at least all is not lost because even if the story is somewhat not that intriguing at least was fair enough to what it wanted to tell but that is it.

The miss opportunity in this third entry is wild. The fact that they introduce this new update with restored the land had me exited and since I was in the very first part of the game I decided to give it a go. This is another part of the game that made me think they should release this game with this as the core element of the game and more fleshed out. It had to be more fleshed out.

More so when you come from a second installment that blew out the proportions of what the first one did. Having to safe the land and restored it is a good addition to this gameplay. Having to see how it is restored, is very anticlimactic in seeing real reason to do it and experience what it could have been. Seeing a few survivors roaming the streets in balconies, playing guitar, with two groups together is all fine, but still not what could have been if for example, we could have seen places of interest in the game that could be occupied with these survivors.

Seeing survivors just standing there and doing nothing else, was for me like, "is this it" The idea is phenomenal and experience what it is as of now is okay but when you had in the second a living world full of places and people to talk to and have works to do stories to know and be part of, is a bit of a bad implementation in this one.

Again that is why I think Techland should have really take its time with this one and since they decided to do a full fleshed game out of this what was going to be a dlc, then I think Techland you should have implemented it really well and completed it to be beyond what the second is and it offers already. Because even though, the map is small, the map has a lot of potential to grow from what it is and even open places that could allocate these survivors to build or as I wrote earlier, location of interest and make it theirs as survivors.

One thing I see lacking also is this battles that happen between these other faction in the game that you encounter them, but do not know nothing more outside of a mission that you have to choose to aid them in the moment or not but that is it. You see them in the open, fighting zombies and or the soldier of the Baron, but that is it. This game suffers so much from a complex of what this world and place offers that again, feels rush and incomplete.

The whole idea of three faction that this game seems to have but only two are part of the story is weird. I could understand that, if Techland wanted to created it like that? Like this third faction of survivors that are the bad people too are in the game but you do not know nothing about, just in that interaction to create this sort of "wow there is more people out here" but the story did not make me feel that if that was the intention.

Knowing there is more people out there but no seeing them or knowing nothing outside of the open world activities nor a place that can be seen and never interact at least. This game has a lot of questionable decisions when it comes to what they decide to do with it mid production and most important the story. I do not know if this game will have a expansion that will be more fleshed out? But it seems that the game really finish to a fourth installment. This was a foul play Techland, the game is good because of the gameplay and everything that makes this franchise unique, but the lack of a deep complex well put together story for me at least was head scratching.

Originally a DLC that was released as a full standalone game after some additional work.
It's bad. Price is too high, it should cost at least half of current pricetag.

Positives:
- Coop story game
- It now has cars (just as The Following DLC lol)
- Location is picturesque
- Connects DL1 and DL2 together in some way

Negatives:
- Storyline is stupid, short and makes almost no sence
- "Plot twists" are laughable
- Story and characters are written by 10 y.o. child
- Price is too high
- Location lacks continious parkour
- Missions are too repetitive
- World does not make sense at all at this point
- Looting EVERY SINGLE ENEMY AND CONTAINER hurts my finger after an hour
- Skills and progression mean almost nothing
- Clothing means almost nothing
- Idiotic fight when you have only a baseball bat and 3 medpacks (WTF?)
- No Ukrainian localization

Seems like small DLC has been bloated with repeats of story "turns" again and again just to double the "content duration".
Whole plot now feels even more like idiotic resident evil type of story with 0 logic.
Labs, scientists, weapons, gasoline, eletricity, research bases, lab materials/drugs after so many years - uh, yeah, sure.
It's just like a trash horror movie that has a rating 2 out of 10.
I thought DL2 had a weak story, but OMG this one is plain awful.

I can rate this "game" as 4/10, it's below average.

COOP DOESNT WORK HE SPENT 13 YEARS IN A LAB FOR NOTHING END YOUR LIFE

this literally started as dlc and they slapped a full price tag on it. the map is small, the story is your basic revenge plot with a cartoonishly evil villain, and the whole thing wraps up before it really gets going. kyle crane is back which is cool, but they waste him on a nothing story.
the parkour is still fun but half the map is open forest with nothing to climb, which defeats the whole point. and the truck everyone was hyped about? boringgggggggg
it's not bad, it's just not worth $60. wait for a sale, honestly.

the beast truly came inside me

the existence of the alpha volatile is an affront to game design. If you are trying to get ANYTHING done at all during the night inside a building, the alpha can spawn exactly 6 feet away from you from a vent with the only message announcing its presence also showing up in that same exact moment where it spawns. If you arent outside at a ledge where you can cheese it or have your beast mode ability ready, you die or you have to run to a safe zone. There is no counterplay. There is nothing to be gained from this mechanic. There is literally 0 point to this thing being in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. Good ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ luck trying the permadeath mode.

It's really sad when a great series gets turned into a steaming pile of what it once was. Dying Light was a great game. Dying Light 2 was perfection itself. The Beast, does away with everything I loved about the first two.

Did you enjoy the flowing parkour over rooftops? Gone. The only rooftops are on a hillside city that takes up maybe 10% of the map and since all the buildings are on different levels there is no more jumping between them without either climbing or falling to your death. The rest of the map is flat or forest which requires no parkour.

Did you enjoy a well rounded leveling skill system? Say goodbye to that. The skills in this game mostly seem useless, nothing you grow into is exciting or enhances your experience beyond basic powering up of what you already have.

Did you enjoy the thrill of going out at night and trying to avoid volatiles and then the tense chases when they saw you? This game makes going out at night a death sentence. Volatiles just spawn close to you everywhere you go. Their wandering patterns never take them far enough away from you or each other to actually get by them. Oh, and the "Master Stealth" skill? Does absolutely nothing. Every enemy can see you perfectly in pitch blackness.

The grapple hook? utterly pointless in a massive mostly flat partially forested map.

The interesting power puzzles? Gone. Now you just have to clear out the fenced area around the substations and flip a switch.

About the only thing they added to this game that is remotely fun is driving trucks through large groups of zombies but even that gets old after a while.

I don't know who was responsible for this utter disappointment but they ruined a beautiful franchise.

I wish there was a 'Mixed' option for Steam reviews, as this game falls into that category for me. I *LOVE* DL1 & 2.

Overall, the game felt more like an addon/DLC akin to DL1's The Following.

The story and voice acting were (again) very good. This was the game's strong suit.

Gameplay-wise ... I just didn't 'feel' it.

The parkour felt a bit clunky, I didn't ever feel like I 'flowed'. I didn't enjoy the map anywhere near as much as DL2's with its massive verticality, and I wonder if the design of the map made parkour feel quite stop/start. Also, I was *never* sure if I would make a jump/grab ... auto-grab was very hit and miss, and some ledges seemed easily reachable, but apparently there was no *insert code that makes a ledge grabbable*. The *only* parkour improvement over DL2 is the lack of the stamina bar for climbing.

The only use I found for the grapple was yanking Zs and headstomping them. That *was* fun (at first) ...

I found the combat quite flat, with the environmental effects on weapons and in the world being very underwhelming. No 'dropkick' manoeuvre, only a vault/dropkick. As you level up you need 2 headstomps to kill a downed enemy ... headstomp should *ALWAYS* be a finisher! I played Dead Island 2 last year, and the combat in that game (including environmental fx) really flowed and was real fun.

The Beast mode ... again, I found it really underwhelming. It took a lot to charge up, then was expended too quickly, even after I had fully upgraded The Beast skill branch. Maybe the Legend levels where they allow you to speed up charging and prolong The Beast mode make you feel like The Beast ... but you'd need at least another playthrough to get the XP to bump those skills up.

I really disliked the driving, and the trucks don't handle well enough (they turn like an oil tanker!) for the racing quest to feel fun - I completely swerved them (pun intended!).

Although I thought the map wasn't particularly large, it felt quite empty. I will say that the different zones (town/forest/farm/industrial) did all have distinct designs.

The crafting/upgrading weapons and items was a big downgrade from DL2 (I *LOVE* looting and hoarding components!).

I played @2560x1080 with settings maxed and upscaling 'Quality' and consistently hit 60fps.

Overall I expected more from the gameplay and was quite disappointed, but I'm glad I played the game for the story and world building which it does *really* well.

Despite my 'mixed' review, I look forward to the next installment in the DL universe.
