The game world is the same as other Devcats games - there are multiple areas, in this case apartment rooms, that you traverse between and find hidden things. There are many easter eggs in the form of pop culture references, and you can tackle the rooms in seemingly any order you wish, but that’s it, not much else to it other than to say simply it’s a 2D drawing.

Small narrative, based around the care taking of cats and finding them homes.

The gameplay loop revolves around a hidden object game. There are a few minigames that mostly involve spam clicking, or object placement, but I’d say around 95% of the game is hidden object based.

The game continues the tradition of finding non-cat objects, which are the bulk of the difficulty here. Often these objects blend in much better to the background than a cat does. The game is generous with its clue system by refreshing every ~30 seconds, but there were a few puzzles where you don’t have a hint and need to find a tiny token or key. This can definitely lead to some difficulty and having to look things up.

Same as other games. Hand-drawn art is the graphics here. Only thing I’ll say is I noticed the art color was nowhere near as vibrant as SFoC.

On the technical side, I did crash to desktop once when changing floors via elevator.
I noticed no bugs.

Very good, I love how each room had its own theme and music to accompany it.

There is no voice acting.

There are achievements, but you can get them all in one run with zero divergence, this is a very linear game with very low replay value. I 100% the game in around 4.5 hours.

A Building Full of Cats 2 (BFoC2) is my 3rd game by Devcats, and while I’ve enjoyed their repertoire up to this point, the statleness is starting to set in. Each game has the same loop that stretches over ~4 hours and its a never-play-again title. So while I do fully support the devs and their initiative of housing cats, I can’t see myself buying another game unless the formula is shaken up a bit.

By far my biggest negative throughout the series has been the inclusion of the “Hidden” cat mechanic. Yes, technically all the cats are hidden, but there’s a few cats that are hidden behind an object. This leads to entering maps and spam clicking on everything that may contain a cat. This is not fun and I don’t like literally wearing down my mouse with this poor mechanic.
Another thing I did not enjoy is the non-cat objects. You’ll often need to find music sheets, or game cartridges, or protein powder, all of which are obviously not cats and blend in exceptionally well with the environment. There are even cases of a cat sticker counting as a cat, which is a cop out to me. Lastly, I noticed many cats hiding on the absolute edges of the screen, or even behind the UI elements(!). It’s almost like the devs are trying to intentionally place them in the most obscene spots.

Aside from my many gripes, this is still a good hidden object game that held my attention to completion. I greatly enjoyed exploring each of the unique rooms and their themes and all the tons of pop culture references. There’s a bit for everyone here.

Overall, I do recommend this game, but as long as you enjoy the Devcats hidden object formula and do not expect much deviation or differences from past games.

$7 base price is a bit steep for a ~4 hour game with zero replay value. Even the historical low price of $5.59 does not manage to beat my “Hour-per-dollar” metric.

It's a solid Devcats game, but it felt like one of the weakest in the series. The rooms are quite repetitive, and the mini-games seemed a bit out of place.

Excellent for stress relief. Nice art that suits the character of each inmate. Clever and fun.
