Since launch, our team has been hard at work to improve and enhance the game, including adding highly-requested features like HDR and New Game +. With today’s patch, we’re pleased to bring you part two of our big FSR 3 and HDR update.

So, whether you’re a new recruit or haven’t had a chance to catch up on the latest IOA news, here’s a quick recap of updates, features, and content added to Immortals of Aveum over the past several months:

FSR 3 uses a combination of super resolution temporal upscaling technology and frame generation to deliver smoother framerates in supported games. This technology uses optical flow technology and temporal game data such as motion vectors to generate additional high-quality frames for a higher framerate. On PC, FSR 3 has been updated to a newer, better version which further improves visual quality and performance of its temporal upscaling.

And there’s more - This update also extends support for VRR monitors and TVs on all platforms, which improves frame pacing and reduces occurrences of judder or screen tear. Now all Immortals of Aveum players can enjoy better quality visuals, improved framerates, and improved game performance on an even broader set of hardware, thanks to AMD FSR 3 and our partners at Enduring Games[enduring.games].

We’re pleased to bring HDR (high dynamic range) to PC with today’s update, patch 1.0.6.4. Now PC battlemages alike can explore Aveum’s stunning landscapes and wield deadly spells in magical first-person combat all in gorgeous HDR with deeper shadows, brighter highlights, and more vibrant colors.

HDR is one of the IOA community’s most highly requested features and our team shared that desire to bring HDR to Immortals of Aveum. This meant taking the time to make the game look great in both SDR and HDR and balancing work on other unannounced projects. We wanted to provide players with gorgeous HDR visuals, and we’re delighted to offer a richer, more visually captivating journey through Aveum we hope all battlemages will enjoy.

We’ve got an exciting tech update coming to you in patch 1.0.6.4 on May 24, 2024. This update rolls out HDR (high dynamic range) and brings an updated version of AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) to PC. It also means Immortals of Aveum™ is the first game to implement AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S! Console and PC players alike can now take advantage of FSR 3’s super resolution temporal upscaling, advanced frame generation, and built-in latency reduction technology to boost framerates and game performance. This update also extends FSR 3 support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) monitors and TVs on all platforms.

Now all Immortals of Aveum players can enjoy better quality visuals, improved framerates, and improved game performance on an even broader set of hardware thanks to AMD FSR 3 and our incredibly talented partners at Enduring Games. Read more about today’s update in this blog post.

Key Updates:

• Immortals of Aveum is now running AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and PC!
  
• FSR 3 uses a combination of super resolution temporal upscaling technology and advanced frame generation to deliver smoother framerates, better image quality, and improved game performance.
  
• On PC, AMD FSR 3 has been updated to a newer, better version which further improves visual quality and performance of its temporal upscaling.
  
• On console and PC, the FSR 3 update also extends support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) monitors and TVs, which can improve frame pacing to help reduce judder or screen tears
  
• HDR (high dynamic range) support is now available on PC to enhance players’ gaming experience with more detailed and realistic visuals. HDR arrived on consoles in the previous game update, patch 1.0.6.3.
  
• HDR is set to ‘off’ by default and can be adjusted in the Graphics menu.
  
• Known Issue: After the user sets HDR to ‘on’, closing and relaunching the game causes HDR Mode to turn ‘off’ while the toggle button continues to display ‘on’. We’re working to release a hot fix for this as quickly as possible.
  
• Temporary Workaround: When relaunching the game, toggle HDR to ‘off’ > save settings > toggle HDR to ‘on’ > save settings

PC Updates:

• Fixed an audio bug when switching language settings in game. The game will now apply the correct audio voice over for the selected language.
  
• Updated to NVIDIA DLSS 3.7 and NVIDIA Streamline 2.4 which can help further improve image quality and game performance for PCs utilizing the latest NVIDIA RTX GPUs.
  
• Fixed a rare issue with NVIDIA cards that could cause the game to crash when using Alt+Tab.

Misc. Changes & Minor Fixes:

• Addressed minor bugs and progression blockers
  
• Addressed instances of occasional crashes
  
• Minor addition of localized text

A small PC update on April 5th brings quality of life and upscaling improvements. Stay tuned for more info on HDR for PC and FSR 3 updates for all platforms coming soon.

Key Fixes:

• On PC, we’ve made improvements to temporal upscaling and reduced instances of ghosting
  
• On PC, we’ve made a small quality of life adjustment to the mouse sensitivity and mouse smoothing default settings based on player feedback
  
• The mouse sensitivity value will default to 0.25 instead of 0.5
  
• Mouse smoothing will be set to ‘off’ by default
  
• Addressed minor bugs and progression issues
  
• Addressed instances of occasional crashes

We’re honored to receive the NAVGTR award for Best Art Direction in a fantasy game! We’re so proud of our team for all of the work, talent, and dedication they put into IOA to be recognized with seven NAVGTR nominations, as well as a nomination for “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Real-Time Project” by the Visual Effects Society. And of course, a big thank you to all the NAVGTR and VES members and voters for considering IOA as a contender among such an incredible lineup of games in 2023.

Playing is Believing

As we approach the one year anniversary of Immortals of Aveum’s big reveal in April 2023, we wanted to take a moment to express our appreciation for the players, press, creators, fellow developers and colleagues who’ve joined us on this journey so far. It’s no small feat to build a new studio and original IP game, using a new game engine, and with significantly less budget than the average AAA game, all in five years. While you probably already know that our launch didn’t have the initial commercial impact we hoped for, y’all have shown us tremendous support through your comments and messages, by referring friends, and swapping expert advice.

And it shows. Immortals of Aveum’s purchase rate for people who played the demo is 2-3x higher than EA’s average on their other game demos. We’re grateful for an average 82% user score across digital storefronts. Players getting hands-on with Immortals and sharing their experiences validates our belief that playing is believing.

It hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows, game development never is. Yet we’re optimistic about the future, and hopeful that as folks play through their backlog of games they discover Immortals of Aveum. Which brings us to the latest game updates…

HDR is Coming to Immortals of Aveum on PC Soon

Releasing TODAY, Patch 1.0.6.3 brings HDR (high dynamic range) to Immortals of Aveum on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. HDR support for PC is on the way soon in a future update. Aveum’s stunning environments, unfettered magic, and battle-hardened denizens take on new life in HDR with deeper shadows, brighter highlights, and more vibrant colors. We’re pleased to announce that this long-awaited, highly requested update is available for all Immortals players today. Read the patch notes here.

Bringing HDR to IOA was something our team felt very passionate about. We wanted to provide players with gorgeous HDR visuals, and that meant taking the time to do it right. Once HDR became available in Unreal Engine 5, our team set to work to get Immortals of Aveum updated… then we hit a snag in our Caldera level. Although Aveum is brimming with magic, turning on HDR didn’t magically make everything look the way we wanted it to. Caldera needed some extra love in the form of new lava shaders, new VFX, and other touch ups to make it look great in both SDR and HDR. Additionally, we had to balance IOA improvements while also working on other unannounced projects, which was tricky.

Game development is always full of surprises. Nevertheless, the result is a richer, more visually captivating journey through Aveum that we hope new and old battlemages alike will enjoy.

AMD FSR 3 Updates Will Bring Improved Visuals & Performance to PC

Thanks to the hard work of our wonderful partners at Enduring Games, patch 1.0.6.4 will soon bring AMD FidelityFX™ Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3), including its frame generation capability, to Immortals of Aveum on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as FSR 3 updates for PC! We’re pumped that Immortals of Aveum will be the first game to implement FSR 3 with frame gen on consoles. Soon, console and PC players alike can take advantage of FSR 3's temporal upscaling, advanced frame generation, and built-in latency reduction technology for improved framerates and game performance.

Since we work with AMD and we work with Ascendant, Enduring Games was in a unique place to enhance our FSR 3 work for PC, and bring the tech to consoles for the first time, all for fans of Immortals of Aveum."

Again, thanks to our friends at Enduring, this FSR 3 update will also extend support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) monitors and TVs on both PC and console, which will improve frame pacing and reduce occurrences of judder or screen tears. Additionally, FSR 3 on PC will be updated to a newer, better version that will further improve visual quality and performance of its temporal upscaling.

Patch 1.0.6.4 is in the works and set to be released in the coming weeks. We’ll have more information on the release timing as we get closer, so stay tuned!

Hey, Battlemages!

An update with a hot fix for New Game+ is headed your way today, November 21st, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. We’re continuing work, bringing even more fixes and improvements to Immortals of Aveum™, so stay tuned!

• New Game+ is now unlocked for all players who have reached the “Epilogue” objective. This resolves an incident where some players would be locked out of accessing New Game+ despite meeting the requirements.
  
• Removed the text that appears above the New Game+ altar outside of Glaivegate.

• Fixed instances of occasional crashes, particularly on minimum or below minimum spec machines
  
• Resolved an issue where respawning during a reload animation sometimes prevented Jak from being able to fire the sigil.
  
• Convinced a stubborn Swordsman to gracefully accept his fate when falling to his death inside the Holosteric Shatterfane so players can progress with the fight.
  
• Fixed an occasional issue where players would respawn in a freefall inside the Wild Fane.
  
• The Hand of Sandrakk’s mastery of Blue magic grows and she is now immune to Vortex. This also addresses an issue in New Game+ where using Vortex against The Hand could cause a bug that prevented the fight from progressing.
  
• Various performance improvements throughout the game.
